Anyone else here a tomboy? Hate shopping? Could care less about "cute shoes"? Avoid salons? Don't own nail polish? :)

Don't own nail polish? :) DJ1972 08-06-2007, 03:10 PM I don't paint my nails, only get a haircut when I have to, still enjoy mud fights with my kids, my wardrobe is jeans and t-shirts, and I like hunting and fishing.....so yep, guess that makes me a tomboy! sdrjeolsen 08-06-2007, 03:16 PM oh yeah!! Thought I was the only one. I hate clothes shopping...shopping in general, except for groceries, for some wierd reason I enjoy that. Don't care about shoes, pruses, hair, nails, etc. I rolled in the dirt just as much or more than my brothers. My daily attire is jeans and a t-shirt. Edna_E 08-06-2007, 04:26 PM Easily, with that criteria. Also don't tend to decorate anything, not my cakes, not my house, not myself. Like to throw a football and go hiking. Like digging and building things. Don't do my hair (wash it, comb it, and tie it back out of the way now that it is long enough again, but no more). The funny thing is that in my teens and 20's I was a "girly-girl". Guess I just used it up! Luv2BeFrugal 08-06-2007, 04:56 PM Oh good!! I'm not alone! :cheergrl: I agree on the hair care...it gets washed, combed, parted...and I'm done. I don't even own a hair dryer or curling iron. Missourimom 08-06-2007, 05:09 PM Hmm, I had to think about this. I don't think I'm a tomboy, but I'm not girlie girl anymore either. I cut all my long hair off about 6 years ago and love it. I don't have a hair dryer or curling iron either. I occasionally wear makeup. The only jewelry I wear are ear rings and my wedding ring. I wear jeans and t-shirts and either flip flops or tennis shoes everyday. I work in home improvement with my husband, so I can't be afraid of hard dirty work. I'll even fish with my husband too. With that said, I don't dig sports AT ALL. There isn't an athletic bone in my body and I don't work on cars. ;) frugalfarmwife 08-07-2007, 12:27 AM Tom boy and then some, the second the frost is gone I'm BAREFOOT, in cut offs and strap T's, no makeup, wash the hair and let it go (curly), I can throw hay bales with the best of the guys, wrestle a calf as well as they can and still climb trees! Funny, I was a tomboy young, went through the girlie stage/big city party girl from 18-27, then married a city boy and moved him to a farm. We've never looked back and LOVE IT! Oh, even wear baseball caps a lot :) kj sdrjeolsen 08-07-2007, 01:21 AM "I agree on the hair care...it gets washed, combed, parted...and I'm done. I don't even own a hair dryer or curling iron." Kathryn, I'm with ya there! Luv2BeFrugal 08-07-2007, 08:16 PM "I agree on the hair care...it gets washed, combed, parted...and I'm done. I don't even own a hair dryer or curling iron." Kathryn, I'm with ya there! Woo-hoo! I'm not alone! :D Judi Dial 08-25-2007, 08:04 PM most often my garb winter/fall/early spring is a turtleneck, tank top, tights, and jeans. When it's hot is the only time I wear a skirt, if then. I wear makeup if the occasion warrants: gallery openings, going out fancy with others, etc. Also usually the only time I wear earrings. Jewelry, etc.: I have signature pieces...if the outfit works with it, I have a handpainted scarf I wear, or if it doesn't, I'll wear my "book necklace": fairly plain interesting chain with a carnelian carved book pendant. I usually wear a single bangle on my right arm. My wedding ring stays on all the time. Re shopping? I'd rather shop for used stuff or groceries than clothes, although I like looking at clothes too. Neither DH or I have any interest in sports to speak of (he watches the Tour de France), but he bicycles and I swim. I don't have "girl's night out" ever. For one thing, I don't have those sorts of friends, and for another, why? If I want to go out with my friends, male or female, then I do. DH comes, or not, as the occasion demands/warrants. No big deal. I like feminine stuff, but I've never done it. My mom died when I was very young and I was raised by my dad and brother and an abusive housekeeper. She wasn't someone to emulate, and the other women in my life (her daughter, my half sister, SIL, stepmom, etc.) were not available mostly when I was raised, so I didn't. JD Jaded 08-25-2007, 10:12 PM Well, I'm all but "don't own nail polish". I own it, and I use it on my toenails (we wear a lot of sandals down here), but not my fingernails. The last time I had a manicure in a salon was 10 years ago, and I vowed never again. I actually tried the fake nails for a very short while....eck! I felt disabled! If my feet and fingernails aren't dirty, I've just had a bath or I'm at work! I do wear makeup...it's a southern girl thing I never outgrew...but not very much, and I do blow and style my hair, but I only ever apply lipstick once a day, and when it's gone, it's chapstick from then on. I wish I could be comfortable without makeup, and letting my hair go naturally grey, but I don't think I ever will be. Laurie in Bradenton 08-25-2007, 10:17 PM Gee I always thought I was weird because I didn't own a curling iron or hair drier. No make up here either. Love to camp, climb trees, fish, hike, can throw a football, and change the oil in my car. Work in construction because I don't mind sweating. Laurie in Bradenton Brat 08-25-2007, 11:27 PM I am a tom boy for sure...Don't even comb my hair...wash it in the shower towel it and go..work construction with husband so get as dirty and sweat with the rest of them..don't like to shop..don't like house work...and can take care of my own car...minor repairs...as long as it is one of the older cars.... vigilant20 04-21-2008, 05:47 PM I've always been a tomboy, and kept being told I'd grow out of it. But at 30 I still proudly am! I've become a bit more domestic lately but I see that as necessary, not girly...lol. Megareader 04-21-2008, 05:56 PM What's nail polish? lol |
