View Full Version : Do you reward youself for weight lost?
homesteadmamma 09-10-2002, 02:18 PM When you've lost a specific amount of weight, do you reward yourself. If so, what do you reward yourself with?
I've lost 13 lbs. and once I'm down 20 lbs. I plan on rewarding myself with something. I'm not sure what as of yet, maybe a new item of clothing.
I've got lots to lose, so I've decided every 20 lbs. I'll reward myself with something just for me.
How about you? Thoughts.
aylasmommy 09-10-2002, 03:26 PM I always buy new clothes when I've lost the weight I want :)
Kimmomo3 09-10-2002, 03:34 PM I have around 50lbs to lose, and I need lots of cheering so I do small things like a new lipstick or something like that (non-food) every 5 lb. then at my 10% goal I give myself something bigger.
Like my next treat is a new hair color, my last one was, a massage. I don't give myself clothes cuz I figure that is just an exta bonus when clothes don't fit.
At goal I am getting a tatoo.:D
PennyPincher 09-11-2002, 07:39 PM I dont really reward myself per say, After a few pounds I see if I am in a smaller size and if I am then I will buy something
cinnamon 12-26-2002, 04:10 PM I haven't really reward myself yet for my 20 pounds loss. Just the thrill of being down to my pre-pregnancy weight was exciting enough! But I will definitely need some new clothes sooner or later. I'd like to reach my goal before going clothes shopping. :)
Sara Noel 12-27-2002, 03:57 PM for a job well done or goals met? I'd like to set up some mini rewards for myself. Trying to figure some that I would enjoy. I think fun healthy snacks would work for me as a treat and a reward. (or possibly small craft items) Not sure yet, but will think about this as I grocery shop today.
judith 12-27-2002, 04:29 PM For my 10 lb loss I got a new pair of $25 walking shoes. For 20 lbs I'm getting a new gym outfit {$20 at Wal-Mart} At 30 lbs I'm getting new jeans. {by then I should need them, right?} At 40 lbs I'm getting a new dress and some new shirts. At my goal of 48 lbs, I'm getting a 2 inch tatoo of a butterfly and one of those Mystic tans..... and maybe my self confidence back...
For mini rewards, like losing 5 lbs or staying away from soda and salt for a week, I get massages from dh and new craft stuff.
homesteadmamma 12-27-2002, 04:38 PM I'm not sure yet what I'm going to reward myself with but my aunt belonged to a club with 5 ladies. At every 10 lbs. lost, they got a silk flower and then at 50 lbs. they got a crystal vase to put the flowers in.
I do know that I will reward myself with every 10 lbs. lost and when I'm at my goal weight, I plan on making a trip by myself (probably to a quilting show!!)
CountryMom 12-27-2002, 09:57 PM I will reward myself too, but I don't know what with. I'll have to think of some good rewards. :)
mrscornbread 12-27-2002, 10:04 PM I think it will be quilting supplies, but I love the flowers in the vase thing, that way I could be reminded of my success. I think I should do something like that I need to think on it some.
mom2matty 12-27-2002, 10:07 PM I like the reward system idea too!! I am not really sure how I will set things up for myself but I will do something!
aylasmommy 12-27-2002, 10:27 PM oh i just love the silk flower idea!!
learning 12-27-2002, 10:50 PM Are you all thinking of a timeline (date ahead) now so that you'll work harder?
homesteadmamma 12-27-2002, 10:59 PM Learning, I don't know about the others, but I plan on making this a life long change so I plan on going slow. For me, slow and steady wins the race and in weight loss, your suppose to lose it slowly. For those who don't (and I speak from experience) you always end up by gaining it all back and then some.
My doctor told me 2 lbs. a week is the most anyone should lose at any one time other than the first week in which you usually lose more. Thats what I'm aiming for.
Leiloni77 12-27-2002, 11:00 PM I haven't even thought about a reward. I will know much better once I've seen some success.
babynurse 01-19-2003, 03:23 PM Does anyone reward themselves for losing weight? For example, for every 5 or 10 lbs lost, or when you reach goal? I have always wanted to either get a tattoo (don't have one now) or have my belly button pierced when I reach my goal weight. Also, when I lost weight before on WW, every 10 lbs I bought myself a food/health/exercise related charm for my charm bracelet as a reminder to keep up the hard work. And of course, new clothes! This time, I think when I reach my 10% (at WW you get a keychain for losing 10% of your starting weight...for example if you weighed 200lbs when you joined, your 10% would be a loss of 20lbs for a weight of 180) I am going to get my eyebrows waxed (I hate to pluck!) and a pedicure! What are you going to reward yourself with?
homesteadmamma 01-19-2003, 03:58 PM Well I'm going to reward myself for every 10 lbs. (if I ever get there) and purchase some silk flowers. At 50 lbs. I will get a vase to put them in and I'll place them in my living room as a constant reminder to eat healthy.
At my goal weight, I plan on making a trip (not sure where) but hopefully to a quilting show!!
mrscornbread 01-19-2003, 11:44 PM Right now my reward is a weekend off. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not eating the whole kithen, but I am not counting carbs. (It is hard not to after doing it for so long). I think my diet was knocking me off balance. I will be back on Tuesday. I will do two or three weeks on and one weekend off. Real reward for losing will realistically have to be new clothes to go to work and school in!!!
heaven 01-20-2003, 12:26 AM i haven't even thought about it. so i don't have a clue about what to reward my self with.
Michelle 12-10-2004, 01:41 PM When you were a kid, and you did something well, every now and then you got a reward. Motivating, right? Weight loss is no different. Use that same logic to make your weight-loss journey more pleasant — and your goal more attainable. Set mini-goals, then reward yourself when you meet them.
"If you don't celebrate small, everyday lifestyle changes," says Karen Miller-Kovach, chief scientist at Weight Watchers International, "there will be times when your long-term weight-loss goal seems so far away that you'll despair or be tempted to give up. Having little stops to celebrate along the way makes that journey more pleasant — and your goal more likely to be achieved."
Come up with goals that are unique to you and the challenges you face with weight loss. Keep them realistic and varied, and track them closely. For example, you might make these three goals:
I will walk 30 minutes five days this week.
From now on, I will record everything I eat each day (regardless of my food intake).
I will clean up the kitchen tonight without picking the leftovers off the dinner plates.
Then, when you meet one of your mini-milestones, give yourself a reward! Just like your goals, your rewards should be varied and unique to you. And they don't have to put a dent in your wallet (unless you want them to!).
