View Full Version : How much weight would you like to lose?
homesteadmamma 09-10-2002, 03:08 PM Were among friends here and I'm sure no one will laugh at our weight loss goals. Lets encourage each other in this battle. We can all do it, if we work hard and report in.
My goal is to lose 80 lbs. over 12 months. I still won't be at my goal weight, but its easier to do it over 12 months. That averages out to 1.5 lbs. per week. I've already lost 13 lbs. in 6 weeks, so thats 2 lbs. per week. My family doctor says not to lose more than 2 lbs. per week. So I'm right on track.
I have only 67 lbs. left of my goal weight up to Aug. 1/2003.
Next....
Kimmomo3 09-10-2002, 03:46 PM Started at 210 went to 185 then back up to 195 now back on my way down, 192 currently. I will be around my goal the end of Feb. so this summer should be extra good for me and how I feel in my swimsuit!
Plus I will have a few extra mo. before summer, just in case I hit a plautau.
sixfreds 09-10-2002, 04:05 PM Well I am about 130 and idealy Iwould like to be about 100, now in reality I know I will never be 100 but 105 to 110 range would be nice :~)
so 20 lbs is what I would like to lose
Eileen
cozyquilter 09-10-2002, 10:51 PM I would like to lose between 80 and 90 lbs by Sept 1 of next year. I began on August 27th this year. So far so good. I don't have a scale so I am putting my starting weight at the last time I was at the Dr in June.
Its been 2 weeks today and although I don't know if I have lost any weight, I do feel my clothing slightly looser in the back thigh area and my face and neck have changed slightly. I do have a Dr apt scheduled for October so I will weigh in at that time.
I don't want to get a scale. If I want to weigh myself I will stop at the Dr office. I want this to be a real life style change, rather than a numbers game. This is 7.5lbs/mo or 1.76/wk, which I think is very do-able.
I have been doing a Meditarrian Diet/Dr Willett (Eat, Drink and be Happy) which is lots of Whole grain producst, veggies "in abundance" , fruits, NUTS, poultry and fish. Only Olive Oil. Limited red meat, white bread, potatoes, white rice, dairy. I am not counting any fat grams, calories or carbo...just eating more healthy....
I do need to start excersing, walking.....I am thinking of joining you CJ in your exercice challenge (BTW on another forum I am Homebody.... ), but I may have to start out with 15 minutes of walking and work my way up.
homesteadmamma 09-10-2002, 11:22 PM Omg - I'm so glad your here. We can do this together along with all the other ladies.
I'm weighing in but I'm eating almost word for word what your eating and its so much healthier. Its interesting, because since I started baking bread with freshly ground wheat, I'm not near as hungry as I use to be. I'm also eating breakfast which makes a huge difference.
Good to see you agan! Check out the quilting forum okay!!
crdurham 09-10-2002, 11:28 PM 50 lbs....ideally by Jan 1st.... I have been very overweight and very underweight. Yesterday at the gym, I weighed 196. My dh and I are eating low carb and excersizing....I feel so much better when I eat good and work out. I know I can do it, its just a matter of doing it....lol.... this is great to have a support system on here to help us all along....
~Sherry~ 09-10-2002, 11:33 PM I would like to lose 40 lbs. ... but I can't do it. :(
I can't seem to eat right, although I don't eat terribly bad.
I don't have the ambition to excercise daily. I decide to and I do it for a day or two then stop. I don't have the encouragement I need... I guess. I LOVE to walk, but I live in the innercity where its not safe to walk. I'd have to drive a ways to do it. I thought about getting an excercise tape/DVD and trying that?
Maybe reading along with you girls will get me going. I know I would feel better and have more energy with less weight on.
edited to add: In case you're wondering... the picture I am using for my avatar was taken a few years back (before I had Tyler). THAT'S what I should weigh.
cozyquilter 09-11-2002, 12:30 AM We CAN do this, you too mommy2tyer!! Thanks for starting CJ. I'll check out the quilting thread.
I was looking for a dieting "forum", but I don't want to diet.....I want to change my eating style to be more healthy for a lifetime...Let's encourage one another!!!
I too have started eating breakfast, never did before. It does make a difference. Usually I have a whole grain cereal or bread and diluted OJ, and I do NEED coffee!! Before I just had coffee.
For a snack I have been eating walnuts, for the omega-3.
I also find since I have been eating nuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds and salted roasted peanuts. I don't crave salt and fat....from junk food and fast food.
CJ are you grinding your own flour on the homestead?? How wonderful!! I am looking for a good whole wheat bread recipe, I did copy one from taste of home, but if you have one you would like to share maybe you could post it on the baking forum...if you haven't already.
homesteadmamma 09-11-2002, 10:41 AM Hopeudance - love that new user name btw. Yes I am grinding my own wheat on the homestead. I've posted a couple of bread recipes that I'm using, but I'm doing more experimenting so until I perfect the perfect loaf, I haven't posted many.
Dh keeps telling me to keep the perportions that I'm using in the different grains but I tend to forget and the kids will say "oooh I like this one the best" and I've forgotten how much of what wheat I've put in.
Its amazing how filling the bread is using your own freshly ground wheat and it doesn't plug up the arteries like other bread does.
Sherry - you can do it with all of us. Do you have stairs where you live, go up and down them often. We have an upstairs so I don't have a choice. When you park to get groceries/items, park where you have to walk further than you normally would. Place your grocery items high in the cupboard and reach for them - excersise. Do you hang your clothes to dry - bending up and down is excersise. Walking with Tyler at the zoo/musuem is all a form of excersise.
Next look at what your eating. I hate dieting period. It doesn't work and you only put back the weight on along with more pounds. I'm liking healthy eating.
Good luck to all of us working at our weight loss program.
~Sherry~ 09-11-2002, 11:05 AM I will try, CJ. :)
Yes we have stairs, but I don't travel them much... just to the bathroom and for laundry.
I am very active... a day doesn't go by that I am not off somewhere with Tyler. I get antsy if I have to stay home. I am really enjoying my van, since I can go when I want to now.
The Zoo and Museum... I also walk the Mall of America some... Yesterday we went to a Nature Center nearby and walked for about an hour. Saw 2 deer real close up to us. :)
I eat good for the most part. We don't buy junk food... and we eat fast food maybe once a month for a treat. We eat alot of Hamburger Helpers, Rice a Roni, Chicken Helpers... HM pizza and HM breads. Roast done in the crockpot with potatoes and carrots. Soon we will have a freezer full of venison and waterfowl. :D
But I don't lose weight. I just think I need a tape/DVD that I do every morning. Maybe they don't work. I just guess I need a little boost or something.
I'll try with you all though. :)
blueknitter 09-11-2002, 12:39 PM Right now I'm weighing in at 215. I was closing in on 230, lost to 207 and bounced back up a bit;) . I want to get to 150. DH isn't with me on that, as he likes me "fluffy", but if I can get my weight down, my thyroid back up, and all my other numbers looking good, I'll be more likely to want to do the hiking, biking, and camping he loves.
Sherry, if you need a "buddy" for walking stair climbing, or just exercising in general, I'll holler at you if you'll holler at me! :D Heaven only knows I need the motivation, too. Let me know if you'd like to, okay?
debbiepete 09-11-2002, 12:53 PM I would like to loose 5-10 lbs by my 25th anniversary. I bought a gorgeous silver dress for the occasion. And I want to look as good as I did the day he married me .
mtjsmom 09-11-2002, 01:37 PM about 20 more pounds..i am 5ft 10in and weigh about 175..thank god i am tall my weight spreads out..lol.
PennyPincher 09-11-2002, 07:52 PM My initial goal was to loose 86 pounds, the smallest weight I remeber being was 165 which was still overweight, since April I have lost almost 45 lbs, and have about 40 left to go. My goal is to have it off by May 2003 or sooner
keilley 09-16-2002, 01:32 PM I NEED to lose 15 lbs. I am working my way up instead of down. Why does junk food have to taste so good? Ice cream, chips and dips. My dh can eat all he wants and not gain weight. Uggghh!
Today is the day. I am committing myself to a new me. 1 lb a week for me. I had my body fat measured today. Yikes!! It is 27.7. The lady at the YMCA said I need to get between 20 - 25 to be considered healthy. This was an eye opener for me. A lot of people look at me and say "You don't have a weight problem. " LOL. Now, I can say, I got a body fat problem.
My goal in 3 months is to get my body fat down to 20 or 21.
Keilley
Kitten20 09-17-2002, 01:21 PM I am aiming to lose another 141 lbs. I started Weight Watchers 5 weeks ago and I have lost 17 lbs. since then. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. My FH is very active and loves to go camping and hiking and I would like to be able to do these things with him.
If you're looking for an exercise DVD/VHS, I suggest Walk Away The Pounds. It doesn't take very much room, it's fun and the time passes really quickly. :D
I would like to lose about 20 pounds. I have lost 50 pounds in the last 2 year with Weight Watchers.
Leiloni77 09-27-2002, 04:16 PM I would like to lose about 50 pounds. I am short and weighing 200lbs doesn't look great. I am looking into breast reduction surgery since I started gaining weight when they exploded. If I get them taken in, I know my energy level will go up and I will be inclined to do those activities I loved growing up.
It's nice to know I'm not alone.
AmyBoz 09-27-2002, 09:49 PM I want to lose 10 pounds. We are thinking of trying to have another baby, and I want to be down 10 pounds before I get pregnant and gain another 40. I've been doing pretty well lately. I eat a bowl of cereal every morning at 5:30 (Special K) and then have an apple, then a banana at around 8, then 10, then I eat lunch at 1:00 (usually leftovers) and then a fairly healthy dinner at 6:00. The main thing I need to work on is exercising and drinking water.
Mom23boys 10-27-2002, 04:36 PM I would like to lose 10 lbs. I drink water everyday....for breakfast and lunch. I also drink it throughout the day while working. When I am home on the weekends, I hardly ever grab my water! I have a friend who walks every day and tries to get me to walk, but I feel like I have no energy left to walk. I lack motivation!!! I eat healthy. Just hate to exercise. My DS#1 has a weight set. I started using it last week. Maybe if I stick with a program it will pay off!
mgory29379 10-27-2002, 04:45 PM I would love to lose about sixty pounds but I am not pushing myself. I am cutting back and found a cool site for those of us who are couting :
www.fitday.com
It is a great site and you can customize what you are eating and stuff. I am trying to cut back on calories and fat. I can't see the difference but by my scale I have lost thirteen pounds in a couple of weeks. I would do great I think if I could get the umph up to exercise. That is my really weak point. Don't have enough energy. Good luck everyone. We all deserve the best. But none of us need to lose too much weight cause there is a such thing as too thin.
MJsLady 10-27-2002, 07:43 PM I need to lose around 80 lbs. that would put me at 105 or so.
I am only 5'1 so thats a good weight for me, I think.
My goal isnt looks though, its avoiding the pit falls that killed my mother and her sisters and my father!
Stroke, heart attack, etc.
Of course, being short and sassy will be fun again too.....:D
QuilterMom 10-05-2004, 06:47 PM I would like to lose 23 lbs. I've already lost 10 so I just have 13 to go. :)
Michelle 10-05-2004, 07:30 PM I'd like to lose 20-25 :)
crdurham 10-05-2004, 08:56 PM Still wanting to lose about 50-60 pounds. My last post was 2 months before I got preggers. So here I am still needing to lost weight. I look at the pictures when I was 95 lbs and I can't believe that was me.... there has to be some happy medium somewhere!!
britbunny 10-06-2004, 05:41 AM I am going to lose another 20lbs by in the before my birthday which is January 8th.
I have lost 20lbs in the past couple of months and I'm on the home stretch now.
Darlene 10-06-2004, 08:18 AM :dis: I'd like to lose 60.
Goodwin17 10-07-2004, 01:23 AM Well I need to lose about 140 to be at my ideal weight. I want to lose as much as humanly possible before my wedding. I want this weight loss not only to look better, but to improve my health (have high blood pressure), self esteem, and energy. My pitfall is exercise. I really have trouble getting it done. I'm going to try that "Walk Away the Pounds" video. One of my things is embarassment as I walk. I feel like people are staring at me.
mrscornbread 10-07-2004, 03:22 AM I have lost 35 pounds since January. My weight loss has really slowed down and it is possible tht I have gained back a few pounds even, but now with Shane moving to Illinois, I wont be cooking as much, I hope that will be a positive thing. I would really like to lose another 20 pounds. That would still keep me overweight by a doctors standard I'm sure, but that would be realistic for me.
simplemom 10-07-2004, 06:58 AM I feel unconfortable to say it but maybe if I share it, I will lose it. :(
To be at my healthy weight, I need to lose 100 lbs. But I will be very happy if I lose any weight...even with 80 lbs less I could live being a little over weight.
It's hard for me to come and say this. 6 years ago, I had lost 85 lbs and kept it off for 2 years.....I felt so great back then. That's what I want back---feel great and full of energy....
marietjie 10-25-2004, 12:34 AM I am new here to FV , so I`m just going to jump right in here.
I would like to loose about 100 lbs. I was put on Paxil about a year and a half ago after my DD was born and I have gained 80 lbs since then. I really need to loose this weight, for my health and to feel good about myself again.
My Dr. has just put me on the Glycemic Index diet. It`s not really a diet, I just need to pick foods with a low glycemic index. So far I am feeling pretty good.
I know I can do this, I just need to take it one day at a time.:thumb:
gkp1031 11-01-2004, 09:31 PM I'd like to lose 5 pounds and then maintain my weight.
Ellise 11-01-2004, 10:36 PM I'd like to lose 100 lbs as well but am starting out with 50
bamamomto4 11-17-2004, 04:21 PM I have posted my weight before so it doesn't bother me to repost it lol
I currently weigh 252 and would love to lose 100 but I don't see that happening. I'd be happy just to be under 200!!
I wish I had Sara's willpower and determination...She's done great with her weightloss :D
Jayne 11-17-2004, 04:32 PM I need to lose between 75 to 100 lbs...I have been watching the biggest loser on NBC Tuesdays and wish I was on there...
Guest1 11-17-2004, 04:49 PM I'd like to lose all of it and get back to where I started - 7 lbs 9 ozs..... :D
I hurt myself in the whole overall scheme of things.......
I weighed 311 & went on Phen-Fen - after a year, I was 142 & feisty!!
Then my doc wouldn't write it for me any longer - over the next year, I gained back about 100 of it......
I sucked it up for a while reasoning with myself that one day I would do it the healthy way - then I discovered ephedrine.....weight just fell off......
So now, here I am, Miss "give-me-a-pill-to-make-me-skinny" trying to motivate myself off of the couch to walk the dogs each night......to walk completely around our block it's 2 miles......and that's my new goal - every night - walk the dogs around the block.....
My ultimate goal is to lose about - hmmm - 75 pounds.....it would be the smallest I've ever been as an adult.......
We can all achieve this you know!! We'll use Sara as our inspiration!! :)
Missy 11-17-2004, 04:50 PM Before I got pregnant i was 205. right now I am 190. (Right now I am not trying to. But the same thing happened with previous pregnancies. So I am not worried.) If I had my ideal weight...i would be 120. (I am 4'11'' and i believe the calculators say I should be 100 or so) I won't be horribly distressed if i don't reach that weight, but i would be happy around 140-150. I'd love to get into sz 9-10 but if i could get to 14 or so i'd be thrilled.
Guest1 11-17-2004, 04:54 PM It's funny how we each have different perspectives.....
Missy - I AM a size 14 & I hate it!! :screwy:
I want back into those size 7's!! (she says, as if she still has anything, other than shoes, that are size 7!!)
niceday 11-17-2004, 04:56 PM I would like to lose 10 to 15 pounds...
pkellyc 11-17-2004, 06:22 PM Guess what? I have lost 100 lbs.+ how did I do it? Not only did I walk 3 miles at least 5 times a week (the hard part) I ate my cake too! I tried to make good food choices during the week and on weekends I splurged (sparingly) but I did. I left food on my plate everytime I ate, much to my mil's horror. (the bigger waste was to put it in my mouth) I cut all my regular portions in half during the week and on weekends I ate what ever I pleased, I just made choices. When dining out on that fried seafood platter I ate what I loved most, the seafood, skipping the baked potato or ff. It took me about 2 1/2 years to do it, but it's been about 6 years and I never gained the weight back. I also gained some pretty good eating habits. I am diabetic now those habits are comming in handy.
Inspirational? I hope so for that is how it is intended. I am the original junk food junkie so if I could do it, I believe anyone can. More good news, now that the weight is gone I maintain my weight easily. You will no longer crave so much food and your energy level will go up.
P.S. I don't care what they say this takes awhile. I was so tired when I started walking, I would just drop after dinner, so don't give up..... Oh one more thing, it was like quitting smoking I did start and stop more than once. When you do stop, forgive yourself, forget about it and keep moving on. Good Luck to everyone!
I weighed at 245 when I started, I now weigh in at 132 lbs. well within my weight range of up to 140. Am I skinny to the bone? No, I am 5'3" and very healthy looking 44 year old.
Guest1 11-17-2004, 06:26 PM thanks for sharing your story - that's the type of kick in the pants I need!!! :hug2:
guest2 11-17-2004, 11:28 PM Well, I'd love to lose about 40 pounds. I'm still wearing the same sized clothing I wore in college, but I have 40 extra pounds on me and I look "yucky". Somebody please explain to me how I can still wear a size 14 when I'm 40 pounds heavier????
pqb52 11-17-2004, 11:56 PM I'm at 220, and if I could lose 20 pounds, I would be in good shape. Come on ladies, we can do it.

I have bugged Sara many times about what worked for her(details, details lol) and again I would like to say Thank you to her.....Thanks Sara! :hugz:
kimmee 11-18-2004, 12:25 AM I am 5'5 1/2 with a medium large frame and I weigh 152 which one chart says is in range for me and another says I am slightly overweight, to me I am disgustingly overweight, size 13 is tight. my belly is huge - Ryan constantly grabs it and says in his fat B***tard voice - "GET IN MY BELLY" - Thank you my little love bisquit!! - I KNOW I look better at 118 lbs. When I am my proper size I have some fairly grande chichi's but right now I have melded into on big tummy - my only flat spoton my tummy is my Csection scar !!- :weeping: My goal is to get down to 125 and that, with my shape, is a size 8-9. Isn't it funny how all the different charts and scales and sizes measure so differently for everyone??
By the way I want to lose 27 lbs. by last week. :(
Jayne 11-18-2004, 10:26 AM pkellyc...Your common sense approach is just what I have been looking for, Thank you so much!!!!!:hug2: P.S. I pmed you !!!!
nodmicks 11-29-2004, 05:36 PM I previously went from 207 to 134 on a lower carb diet. I held for about 2 yrs.Over the last 18 months I have went back to 170. I really need to get back to no higher than 140. I have tons of too small clothes and the extra weight really effects my self esteem.
