It's power button is broken but I dis-assembled it over the phone with the help of an electronics savy friend and with a little hunting I should be able to find a button for an easy fix... no wires or sodering involved.:cheer4:
This is a frugal first for me. I have gone dumpster diving many times before but never tried to repair a piece of electronic equipment. According to the Sony website it's about 15 years old but if I can get it working that's fine by me. My stereo started ruining CDs some time ago and I have been wanting to move to a receiver set up but am too cheap to lay out $200 to $500 or more for a new one... if this works out then I just need to dive a CD player and I'm set :D

Just quick update - I got the button and was able to install it quite easily so now I have a really great stereo receiver that cost me $13.95. Woo Hoo!!
It can take up to eight speakers so now I just have to keep on the look out for used speakers for my frugal home theater :D

Wow, that is so awesome! I used to go to the "pick and save" with my grandfather, I miss those times! We would get some amazingly beautiful paintings, with gorgeous frames!

That's a great find. My neighbor's boy found a big screen tv in the garbage. All it needs is an $80 part to get it to work. (They don't need the frugal thing). In the process of getting the tv the boy got a warning and the next time he is caught doing this he will be fined. I guess here in Pa you're not allowed to take things others throw out. Go figure. They don't want the landfills full but you can't take someones elses junk without getting in trouble

What a crock of crap!!! Doesn't law enforcement have anything better to do than harass trash pickers? Go have your darned coffee and donuts!!!

LOL!! Amen Foxxyroxie!! I mean really.... why aren't they out catching rapists, murders, armed robbers, child abusers or crooked politicians?
Well, maybe I'll cut them some slack on the politicians. I don't think we have enough jail space for all of them anyway.
