The quilt is almost finished. I finished the hand quilting yesterday after, starting on the sashing and will finish the binding today.

On Monday I'll have $300.00 in my pocket along with all the costs of the supplies.

The neat thing is I purchased all the supplies at sale price and marked them up 20% so not only did I make money on the hand quilting, but I also made money on the supplies.

Oh CJ!! Good for you!!:heartsm:

I can sometimes be difficult for quilters to make a profit on quilting...you did wonderful!!

You should be so proud of yourself.

Wow! That is awesome!

How long did it take you to make? How big is it? Do you have a picture? Does hand quilting make it that much more expensive? Do you sell very many?

I am just learning. I am doing machine sewing. I'm not sure my hands would let me hand sew the whole thing. You did very well.
:D

I use my sewing machines for the top of all quilts, but I've come to love hand quilting the completed quilt, its part of who I am, a homesteader.

Hand quilting a quilt makes it more costly, but this one I'm doing for my dd's music teacher so I'm not chargeing her has much as I would if it was a stranger. Also the top was already finished (by her mom) so I'm just doing the quilting.

I don't sell any of my quilts, I give them all away. Within the next year I plan on making a few and selling them along with our crafts, but you certainly don't make any money (not around here anyways) selling quilts. At least you never get the time you put into making the quilt. I just love giving them away and often as surprises. Makes my day.

How wonderful!! I love quilts...I have several that I have collected over the years. I sold some a few months ago, was hard to see them go...I'm sure its even harder when you make them yourself...Good luck to you on selling them, people only see the price..the don't understand the talent and time that it took to make them...those that I have purchased have been well worth it... :)

Congrats! But wait now I'm confused..is the 300$ from selling it or something else since you dont' sell them?

Aylasmommy - This one I made $300 from because the top was already made, I just hand quilted it for my dd's music teacher. So I got $300 for the hand quilting!!! If it hadn't been the music teacher I would have charged more.

:) homestead......some of our most prized possessions here are the quilts that my dh's grandmom made for us....we have one that she made for us as a wedding gift, made each of the 2 dks a baby quilt. She has never sold any of hers......and said she never would. She taught me how to quilt....and I love her like my own gm. :)

A lot of people do not realize what the work and time is involved in making a quilt...congrats on your work. :)
