Whether it's for food, clothing, or housewares, etc. what is your favorite store to find good deals?

Real Deals. Everything is $1 or less, but they're not like a regular Dollar Tree-type store. This store gets the "salvage" stuff from other stores like Target, Sears, Lerner's, Linen's N' Things, etc. Plus they have food, yarn, clothes, books, paper products, etc. I love going in there once a week or so just to see what they've gotten in recently. And you have to buy it when you see it, because it's not like the order more stock. They sell it as they get it and when it's gone it's gone.

I like TJ Max & Marshalls, never know what I'll find on their shelves. As far as department stores, I always find good deals at Kohls.

I love my salvage grocery Petricks!
They carry everything but fresh veggies. I save a ton of money by shopping here. Both children realize that its saves too. Both hve told friends moms abut the place.

For clothing shopping, I like to go to JC Penneys or Belk. I can get super good deals there by shopping the clearance rack certain times of the year.

For food, Kroger seems to be the best here. They double coupons, and have a nice selection of discounted food.

I shop my $1 store regularly. I find my face soap, vacuum bags, small gifts, cards, wrapping paper, name brand items (shampoo and conditioner sometimes), seasonal items, and so much more. I shop there 1-2x per month for big savings in the budget :).

Which dollar store do you go to? Here there are so many with different names.

I've found that our dollar stores generally don't have good deals :( I like the prices on greeting cards, and I've picked up a bunch of small toys for sewing projects pretty cheap, but other than that the stuff is way too overpriced. I've even looked through their cleaners, but it's cheaper to either use coupons at Kroger, or use baking soda and vinegar.

What is everybody finding at the dollar stores, that makes it worthwhile?

The bread store near my house. They do not sell day old stuff, it is all in date and very fresh.

I get loaves of Wonder bread for $0.59 each, boxes of Nabisco 100 calorie pack for $1.00 a box, hamburger and hot dog buns at $0.50 for an 8 count package, Enteman's Little Bites for $1.00 a box.

My favorite place for the kids' clothes is Plato's Closet. I go to the in that is 5 minutes from the Auburn University campus (45 miles from my house) because those college kids will sell anything. They have the best styles and no junk. The location near my house has a lot of crappy clothes, no good name brands and is not worth the time.

Last week I got them......
~NorthFace jacket (excellent condition - if bought new this style cost $125) for $30
~a brand new with tags Under Armour hoodie sweatshirt for $14 - (they are $65 at Kinnucan's)
~Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Hollister shirts for less than $10 each.
~New with tags Polo's for $10
I spent $130 and got them two full bags of clothes.

I love the Goodwill in our neighboring town. It's awesome, and has some killer deals, plus a bargain barn where they put stuff that isn't selling, and it's sold really cheaply.

I love Dollar Tree and Dollar General too, especially since they started letting the managers mark things down to half price or less in DG. I buy a lot of stuff that way.

I also love Big Lots, but I'm not a big spender, so I only go there when I need something I can get cheaper there, like makeup. I love finding name brand makeup for less than $3!

Which dollar store do you go to? Here there are so many with different names.

The one I like to shop in is called Dollar Tree and everything in it is $1 or less. They seem to have special merchandise, maybe from other stores...so sometimes I find name brand items in there for food and toiletries. I stocked up when they had Vive shampoo and conditioner a few months back. Of course, it isn't there anymore. I always keep my eyes open while I am in there, you never know what you might find that you are currently buying somewhere else for more money :). The one I go to carries my face soap and it sells online for $3 or more for a bar. It's Pears Soap and one bar for $1 lasts me a month or longer :). I also buy the Pure & Natural body bar soap
(3/$1) it's gentle on my sensitive skin and the 3 bars are enough for my fiance and I for a whole month.

I live for the Dollar Tree. They have the best stuff and it's all $1. Great for basics! Some of their toys are junky but you can find some gems like wooden puzzels and nice hard cover books. I go a few times a month and they always have new things. If you see something you like get it because it won't be there when you go back...I've made that mistake a few times.

I love our Dollar Tree. I get all of my greeting cards & stationery there.

I also love shopping at JCPenney, Sears, and Target--especially their clearance racks and "one day sales". I often combine these deals with GC's, and if I'm shopping online, I order through mypoints.com for even more savings.

I like the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores.

Also Big Lots. Was able to buy a cafe set for $50 for my balcony. The same set cost around $90 at other stores around here.

I only go into the dollar store when needed. Otherwise I end up with stuff I probably don't need.

Honestly, I find the best deals at Costco. The unit prices on groceries tend to beat even the loss leaders at the grocery stores, and it saves me time to shop in bulk. I also purchase non-food items there (linens, automotive maintenance, housewares, flowers, etc) and get better quality things for better prices.

If you spend enough, you can avoid paying an annual fee. We can do this because we purchase for 2 families with one membership.

I like Aldi for food, especially fresh veggies and canned food.

I like Dollar General and Family Dollar for their marked down and discount clothing, health and beauty products like make up and shampoo.

I like Big Lots for the variety of things they have there.

I also, buy most things at Wal-Mart.

I know alot of people don't like Wal-Mart, but that doesn't mean they are bad. I moved recently and Kroger and Harvest Foods are both closer. However, I pay tons more if I shop there. 12-pack of cans? $3.89 @ WM, paid $4.99 yesterday at Harvest foods. Can of chili? $1.50 at WM, $2.69 at Kroger.

I'm trying not to shop at Wal-Mart so much anymore. Besides, now that I've been paying attention they're hardly cheaper anymore.

Dollar Tree's pretty neat for kitchen tools, office supplies, etc.

I also like Ross for other kitchen stuff & household items, and clothes.

I live for thrift store shopping but our Goodwill is pretty terrible and we don't have anything else. I always hit up thrift store and stuff my suitcase when I'm back in Portland to see the fam.

I'm seriously loving Costco, and I'm finding that some of the Kirkland brands are of better quality than national brands. Their mayo for example, is made with canola oil rather than soybean. That made my day! :lol

Big Lots has been having alot of snack foods and Gatorade very inexpensive lately. Dollar Tree in the area has frozen foods that are name brand for $1 and Marc's is just AWESOME! Aldi's for the basics and Thrift bakeries for more snacks and breads(light and reg). Dollar General for the greeting card 2/$1

Asheville has a local store called Amazing Savings, which is basically a food/HAB close-out store that gets all of their foods from the local organic stores, Whole Foods and Wild Oats. Most of the stuff is boxed convenience foods but there are also organic dairy, meats, vegetables, fruits, shampoo, supplements, etc. It's about a 70% discount.

Public Auctions can be a great place to get good deals on housewares and furniture. My parents are both antique dealers and the majority of their house and Kitchen in particular are auction deals.

examples of great buys.

baking dishes and pie plates. Much of this mom got brandnew usually come in box lots less than $1 apiece.

Mixing bowls and measuring cups less than $1 a piece
Two nice upolstered wingback chairs $20 ea.

Really gorgeous birdseye maple dresser $75 in an antiques store easily $300 and up

Dinner plates and glasses. Just sterilize in hot water and muleteam borax Again much of the pieces are less than a $1.

I could go on but you get the idea. ONly draw backs is that auctions can be time consuming you definitely need to be willing to stay long cause most deals come at the end of the auction.

My sister and I just came back from an all girls weekend in SW Florida. We were actually there for a wedding, but managed to get in a lot of shopping too. This was before I found this site, and I never actually thought of us as "frugal", but we managed to go to about a dozen Goodwill Stores around the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. We did not find lots on this trip, but we loved the challenge. I have not done this because I am not up on the brandname clothing like she is, but she buys clothing that is high end and then resells it on Ebay. Last year she bought a two piece ladies business suit that was originally from Nordstroms for $7.99 and then sold it on Ebay for $121.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancing: I thought that was pretty cool. She has done it on numerous occasions. So, when you go to Goodwill, don't just shop for yourself and your family. If you know your brands you can make some extra money for YOU!

Costco is my favorite place to shop
for buying the staple groceries in
bulk. Their meat is unbelievable.
You pay but you get quality meat.

If I need small incidentals like health
and beauty, housewares, etc. it's
usually Walmart or Target.

OHHHH I LOVE AUCTIONS, Kim your parents are ppl of my own heart. I can't even begin to tell you the deals I've got at auctions let me think...most recently I purchased a Kirby G5 3yrs old all attachments included $80.00 2 boot boxes full of every greeting card you can imagine for $2.00. Over the years tons of decor for the house antiques, new and in the middle I just like it and it's cheap my hand goes in the air. There is little decor in my home that wasn't purchased at an auction. It's an addiction !! My Mom just rolls her eyes b/c starting in bearable cold spring dad and I are at an auction clear till unbearable fall weather...I've done it freezing rain and bullizion degree heat...As a matter of fact we bought our 1930's rock house we're living in now at an auction how's that for B-A-D ? Hey we bought it and it more than appraised for double of what we gave for it pfft its my HGTV house he-he. Back on subject...we have the most disorganized GD and big lots stores ever grrrr. My favs are all groceries Aldi's...Meats my local processing plant...clothing Gordman's...I use to shop Fred's for hba but they went out of business so I'm reduce to WM. My dollar stores and we have many sell junk so I just stop bothering

Goodwill or G2. G2 is a place where goodwill puts all the stuff that does not sell or they dont want to sell. It used to be called diggers and that is just what you did. They put out big piles of clothes and you have to dig for the ones you want. I have not been for awhile because I don't have time but last time I was there it was 1.59 per pound of clothes.
