I don't have a dryer and haven't had one for years. I hang my clothes outside or use a clothes rack if its raining or its winter. Here is a little story about clothes racks thought you would enjoy. (This was written in April 2002)
Clothes racks are strange things don't you think?
Having been married for 34 years, I've never used a clothes rack. I've had my clothesline strung out in the basement on a clothesline and during the winter or on rainy days it has worked great.
But I now have to use clothes racks. I found one in the garage here on the homestead and purchased one yesterday. Pretty green thing which cost me $13.00. So one for free and one for pay. Dh wondered if they even made them anymore.
Did you know though that they shake and wiggle. When you hang clothes on them, they move. I'm wondering if they are saying, "don't you dare put that on me". They come apart at the top quite easy so you don't move them with clothes on or they all fall down as it collapses, rofl.
The kids have no idea what they are. They just keep looking at them. When I was a kid thats all we ever seen along with a clothes line outside. Not many of my relatives even had one, they just hung their clothes outside. When froze they brought them in and hung them over the back of chairs, etc. Nothing like the smell of frozen clothes but with fibro I'm not freezing my clothes, no matter what they smell like. My grannie had one though and it has brought back fond memories of her.
The cat thinks they are something to play with and so runs through the clothes at full speed after looking at the strange contraption and wondering what on earth is that. I had "gitch" all over my kitchen floor this morning. She'd probably climb it too but is too fat to do so.
They take up room. Did you realize you can put a full load of clothes on one. I did 2 loads of clothes yesterday and so have 2 in my kitchen. Okay, so I can't move - out of the kitchen they go and upstairs where I have a small open space. There goes my open space but now I have room in my kitchen (well around the boxes that is).
Did you realize they take almost 2 days to dry the clothes. Okay not quite that long but I did say almost!!
The best thing about them is they make me really feel like I'm homesteading and I LOVE IT!!
Added today: I still use my clothes racks, they are still the same as when I first started using them here and I'm going out to get another one before winter sets in.
