View Full Version : Re-Ordered the Gazette

Okay, so many years ago, I had all 3 of the Gazettes. Then, I decided I was done with them and I sold them. A few years later, I really missed them, so I asked for and received for Christmas, The Complete Tightwad Gazette. A few years later, you guessed it, I decided I was done with it and sold it.

Fast forward to today. I really miss my Gazette and have just re-ordered it from Barnes and Noble. It's being sent to the store and I'll be picking it up with some other books that I have on hold, and will be getting them all for free with my Christmas gift cards.

If anyone sees me trying to sell my Gazette again...PLEASE STOP ME! :punch:

LOL will do!

I was actually just thinking about mine the other night. I can't find them anywhere! I want to say that I lent them to my mother but... I'm pretty sure she didn't take them and now I have no idea where they are. I am on the hunt.

Don't sell that reference book, you might want to reference something 2 years from now and it will be gone :read:

I'm so thrilled to see people love that book. I was getting tired of constantly hearing how strict it was LOL :hero:

toile, my feeling is, like with anything in life, it is what you make of it. Do I follow everything she says? No, do I follow a lot? Yes, but adapted to fit my families lifestyle. She never says, "If you don't do your frugality exactly like I do mine, you aren't doing it right." I've heard the complaints as well. I just brush them off.

I just ordered the CTG this afternoon. Considering that the Dollar is weaker than the Euro I got a good deal including shipping to Holland. I do have to wait about 3 weeks though. I wasn't going to pay extra for priority mail(I'm too frugal for that).

The Complete is a compendium of the other three books. Basically, it's three books in one. That way, you have them all at your fingertips.

Amy, I was thinking of ordering a new one too. I sold mine and really miss them.

I am glad you reordered yours and we will remind you that you are not allowed to sell them again!!

Three's the charm. This time you had better hold on to them.

I have done this also Amy. But the last time I bought it I vowed never to let it go again. If nothingelse it reminds you that there is always more you could be doing in the way of thrift.

you know, I think it's about time I allowed myself to buy some books on ebay :)

I've read the TWG2 a dozen times now - it's the only one of the 3 available at the library - but I've still not read number 1 or 3.

I didn't know there was a "complete" TWG - but I have to wonder, is it leaving anything out? Is it like the tighwad version of reader's digest condensed novels??

so, it's official - I'm on the hunt for all 3 :) ((I'm sure someone else would like to read our library's only copy of #2))

If anything, the complete is more than the 3 individual books. It is the total of all 3 books PLUS there were 4-5 newsletters at the very end that were mailed out after TWG3 was printed that are included in the Complete. You won't find that info in any of the other books.

I re-read it the first of every year just for a boost in the frugal derierre! I love it as a how-to, look at frugrality from all sides and be flexible type of book than a step by step how-to book.

I find the Complete Good for car reading, or just fun reading.
However it seems a little clumsey for recipes and hands on projects.
I use my seperate 3 for those jobs.
I also have made labels for the 3 sep books too, for easy location of my favorite articles.

I'm placing a complete one in all 3 of my kids baby boxes.
I'm afraid when they all grow up I wont find copies LOL :D

llanoe it's a series of 3 books (or 1 if you buy the new version) of ways to save money, cut costs, recycle about anything, look at your money in a different way, get creative, and it gets you motivated

Amy D. the gal that wrote these books, used to have a monthly newsletter that you could buy. She compiled the newsletter and letters that she received from readers into these books.

They are very useful. You probably won't use all the ideas, but I bet you can use many. She makes you look at your money differently.

TWG stands for TightWad Gazette.

I think you find them useful - I've had mine for years and still refer to them monthly.

I already have the 3 TG books.
Is there anything extra in the CTG and would it be worthwhile buying it if I still have all of the original newsletters?

I used to have all three books, but gave them away when I got the CTG. I do wish I still had my old books.

The CTG has most of what was in the newsletters plus a section of success stories at the end. I really liked these, they're a great inspiration for me.

I love the BIG BOOK!

As others have stated, it is her three books and a few extra newsletters at the end titled, "The Last Issues."

AND THEN, following the last issues, our success stories. I think I have read them so much I practically have them memorized.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book. I use mine as a reference manual at times. But I mostly use mine for her theories and perspectives - I love the article about the junior ice cream cones.

The book has been a true blessing in my family's life.

The library would be the frugal thing to do, but if you are like me, I love to highlight, underline, and bookmark certain pages.
I want my books handy everyday. I refer to them often.

I love the tightwad books too and its what got me started in this lifestyle decades ago. I am a true tightwad or frugal person right down to the mindset which is critical for this lifestyle.
I use the library OFTEN... and when they dont have a book in I want, I ask them to send it to my library as they will do that ( they get it from another library in the city)...
recently I was looking for a book on raw foods since buying my vitamix machine in december and looked at all the books on raw food/ whole foods ( about 12 of them) before deciding which one I really wanted and ended up ordering it from amazon for about 30% off the cover price.
I will buy books but tightwad books can easily be found at any library branch and you can check it out anytime.
I love Amy............ she got me started on a good path in life since learning about her and reading her books decades ago.
I know now there are 3 but once you get into this mindset......... you can go it alone and even come up with your own ways to live the frugal lifestyle.

Okay, you guys got me pumped about The Tightwad Gazette. I have the first one but never got the other two. The one I have is very well-worn and, to be honest, I've read through it so many times, the only reason I need to pull it out now is to look up something specific I know is in there.

So, I went to Amazon and found a nice selection of I, II and the complete, third one. For $16.99 (that's including shipping), I ordered the third book and it should be here any day.

I thought the price I paid was reasonable.

My local Barnes and Noble does not have it in stock but they ordered it for me. Should be here in less than a week.

Funny...he said I was the 2nd person in the last day or so to ask for this book. He wanted to know why there was a sudden interest in it since it was 10 years old.

I own the first book, but I just checked out the complete set from the library. It's thrashed...very old and torn. The librarian told me it gets checked out all the time. She was amazed that it's so popular. I love the TWG because it helps me to be mindful of all the little areas that suck money out of my budget. Plus, Amy writes with a lot of humor....she makes frugality seem like a fun game.
