Lets pretend were pioneers and were making a Christmas wish list for our dh to pick up something at the General store.

What would be on your wish list from years past?

I would have to say mine would have to be a butter churn. Possibly a bolt of calico material.

I'm closing my eyes trying to imagine what my life would be like....and what I would wish for. Hmmmm...maybe my coffee grinder has broken and I need a new one. Maybe a new cast iron frying pan since I had to hit the bear that came into the yard over the head with my good one. A new pair of shoes? But definitely some beautiful buttons to put on a special dress, and more fabric- you can never have enough fabric.

Hmm...
I guess I would want fabric also... some nice calico, maybe some wool for blankets. Other craft things too... needles, thread, yarn.
I'd probably need some canning jars and lids.
Maybe some pretty flowers for the kitchen table. :)

I would need sewing lessons-lol-then I could buy the fabric! For me, just a nice supply of firewood to keep our toes warm, and to cuddle up with the fire on a cold night.

I can't sew either Danielle... but we're pretending. :)

But Sherry, back then you'd be sewing up a storm, along with joining everyone at a quilting bee. Man I wish we still had some of those days for quilting bees and just plain getting together as woman to chat and sew.

Wouldn't that be great fun? :)

Things are so hectic and fast paced nowadays... no one takes time to just relax and visit, chat and sew.

I would hope Gabe would buy me some pretty ribbon for my hair. The ultimate, thoughtful luxury item on my Christmas list.

On mine would be yarn. Fabric for a new quilt, and chickens to start our flock, but those can wait til closer to spring.

I was going to say yarn, but then I thought, shouldn't I be making my own with wool from our sheep??? lol...not quite sure about that. Heaven, you liked the bear story? I thought while I was dreaming, I might as well dream big....Sara, I love the ribbon idea, that is a great request! Homestead Mamma, I really wish that there were still sewing circles, or quilting bees. I feel like an oddity, I know of only one other woman that sews in our group of friends. To get together with other women with like interests would be heaven!

One practical thing, like a packet of needles and some thread and one impractical thing like a cut glass sugar bowl. Everyone wants to make a home her own and a pretty piece of glassware would be a nice thing to have even on the frontier.

well i hope Heaven(Me) could join the sewing group anyway. LOL :D yes i did love that story i have been thinking though cast iron wouldn't break but what a way to do cook that bear!!!
and my cloth would be used for a quilt and then the curtains and maybe if i was lucky i could even make a new pretty apron to wear to town. *if i had as much company there as i do here no one in town would know it was hanging on my windows.*
By the way you guys are confusing me when you say heaven i have to read it twice wondering if it is me or where god lives that you are talking about. ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
