Have any of you heard of this? Do you have it in your area?

It was brought to my area about 2 years ago by one small church. Now there are about 4 or 5 area churches that participate and the distribution is large.

There are no income requirements to purchase the food. Which has allowed this program to help hundreds of working poor families and elderly folks on tight budgets.

I've purchased the Angel Food Menu a few times to stretch my budget. The food is good and often there are a lot of extras thrown in.

If it's not in your area, perhaps you'd consider helping bring it to your area.

More info and to check to see if it's available in your area:

P.S. - You do NOT have to be a member of the church sponsoring the Angel Food Ministry to purchase this package.

We have bought from Angel Food Ministries several times and have found that there is always a good variety and that it is good food. Nothing strange or weird, some off-brands but many name brands, and the specials that you can add to your order are delicious. We also have several churches in our area that participate in this. :fdance:

March's menu actually sounds pretty good.

I haven't got any for a while. Wasn't that impressed with it.

This was just in our local paper today. Sounds pretty good! I'm going to check into it some more.

I have looked at the boxes before but felt that there were too many things that weren't on our regular list of foods (cereals, peanut butter, jellies etc) for it to be worth it to the two of us.

The March menu looks like it would be great for us - I am thinking I will add the #1 special. That's is all the meat we will need for a month - maybe even longer.

I will let you know our opinion -
Ellen

Regarding ordering late, no... I don't htink you can because the order is processed. But, call the sponsoring church in your area.

Glad some of you knew about this already. Just reading about so many struggling to make ends meet... thought this might help.

I check the menus monthly and post them at work.

we don't have angel food ministries but we got a box from the Catholic Charities
$15.50 a box.
I can do much better shopping on my own. We won't be going back.

Okay, well, glad to know folks are doing fine on their own without this service.

I checked this out before and it's not cost effective for me since there are things listed that my kids will not eat.

I've heard a lot of people who did like the quality of the items they recieved.

We used Angel Food Ministries for about 8 months. We thought it was OK and I would recommend it to others. However, we will probably not use it again. Most of the food was fine, however I did not like the fact that most of the chicken was breaded. I also cannot eat many ready-to-eat products, because of a sensitivity to preservatives. I would say that about half the food was item that I could eat or would not normally buy.
I have learned to get the budget under control by shopping sales and stockpiling.
I know that others find it a great help, but it was not for us.

We sent in an order for the first time, also. Let's compare notes in March and see how we like what we get.

It's one of those *if it sounds too good to be true....*

Reading the "hype" in the newspaper from a local church, I ordered one deal and a side deal of steaks in Nov. When I saw what I was getting (and back then it was $20 not $30) I was angry and vowed to never again buy it. Buyer Beware is the best I can say about it!

It's a good deal for those who need the help. My sister does Angelfood and has only found a few things that she didn't care for. There are including more fresh fruit and veggies and there is always beans, rice and corn bread mix. I've done it and so have several other people we know who have been grateful for it. There are some sites that have recipes for using the food that you get. At Christmas I got one of the cheese and hard sausage boxes and it was great to have around for the guys watching all the bowl games.

It's one of the those things that some will love and some won't. If it helps people out and they can use it I don't see anything wrong with it. Personally, I'm glad it's such a help to my community as we have lots of people who need it.

Sounds like a GREAT deal...but I could not eat any of the meat except the boneless chicken. The french fries have to much sodium and preservatives. The waffles have preservatives. I do not drink milk. I do not eat margarine. I do not eat pork. The soup and mac and cheese have to much sodium.

We are trying Angel Food Ministries this month. I pick up our box next weekend. If you don't have Angel Food around check into Share. We have done that also and so did my parents for some time. Their box is a bit cheaper and I think it does have more fresh fruit and veggies than Angel Food. Just a suggestion.

We're trying it out this month too. I'm ordering on Saturday with pick up the 15th. We'll see what it's like, I figure the worst that will happen is it will be a lesson learned.

I personally dislike Angel Food Ministries. They say that you can pay $25 and get $60 worth of food. Yeah, right. We paid $28 for the regular box and got a lot of over processed foods. With coupons, I could get better quality/quantities of food for half that price.

We had also ordered a bonus box of steaks. The packages were NOT sealed! So my food had freezer burns on them, and we cooked and ate the steaks within a day or two of getting the box. The meats were also loaded with chemicals to 'tenderize' them.

AFM might be a good deal if you can't get out of the house very often, or don't care what you eat. But by watching sale ads and clipping coupons you will save a LOT more money.

We just don't eat that much processed food. It would not be a good deal for us.
