I am pretty excited.. well and nervious.. but happy.

Joe's mom has decided to move in June to here unless sooner ( hopefully ). When she comes she wants to get a pet and since she can't have a kitten she is going to get a turtle *lol* Woman after my own heart *G* We went over all sorts of pets she could have rabbit, ferret, hampster, fish, ect basically things we already have cages for.. she decided upon a turtle... So i was like what kind does she want secula ( they grow big though ), a box turtle, or red slider ( which can get big ).

But anyways she will be staying with us until a trailer opens up.. unless one has opened up by then. We are going to save back if we get that Subsidation check incase there is a trailer open then so she could just move directly into a trailer... i think she would like to be independant as fast as possible.

Make sure she double checks what the needs of a turtle is...my friend has a red eared slider and they have to have pretty decent size aquariums...with swim area and a basking area...though I know the different breeds have different needs. She'll want to get a set up done before she actually gets the turtle.

Aww, I'm so glad. It's not an easy choice for her, leaving all her friends and such. Do you have places nearby that she can easily go to and make new friends?
Wishing you all my best! :heartsm:

That is awesome that she has agreed to come live with/by you where you can help her out when needed. Turtles are great! Yes, they can get big and the set up can need to be a good size. I'd just find out what kind she wants and do the research. I had a turtle for 10 years that someone had gotten from a local lake around here and she never got bigger than a 50 cent piece. I have no clue why that was, or what kind of turtle she was either, but she had a set up in my house that took up a whole room. I don't think it's legal to buy turtles that small from a pet store though. I believe they have to be a minimum of 4 inches.
Anyhow, I hope she finds one she really likes and that this all works out very well for everyone. Grandma's close to grandbabies is never a bad thing!

I'm glad, this should be a big relief.

Awww, a turtle good memories. My daughter had one for 7 years that thing was girnormous when we gave her away I believe she was about 9 years old and well over a foot long nose to tail and about as round as a dinner plate.

Uggghh, just a thought... and you may already know but turtles, like all reptiles, carry salmonella so you may want to invest in some really good antibacterial soap and hand sanitizer.

Yeah, she is talking about moving in June because she wants to pay for the move. With all the new developments for us we are willing to pay for her move with what i am getting back in taxes so we can get her here before the baby comes.

BTW i have had Turtles before... i know all about different ones... i will definately be trying to talk her into a box turtle ( eastern, ornate, 3 toe). They do not get much over 5-6 inches ever. Joe was talking about a red ear slider and i almost smacked him *lol* cause i know they can get 11 inches and need HUGE aquatic areas to live. If she wanted a turt that got large i would much rather deal with a land turtle or tortoise like a secula, then dealing with the water turtles. Expecially since she has a bad back she wouldn't be able to lift the aquarium to clean it for a water turtle.

Yes, reptiles can carry salmonella... but with regular before and after good hand cleaning you get all those bacteria off your hands.

Posted that before i was ready..... any who:

Yeah, she is talking about moving in June because she wants to pay for the move. With all the new developments for us we are willing to pay for her move with what i am getting back in taxes so we can get her here before the baby comes AKA March 12-13th moving. That would be enough before my due date to not have to worry about me popping in some weird spot, yet enough time to plan things out and let her pack up a little.

Joe has had 2 sezures while talking with her on the phone which has scared her half to death. Normally when he sezes she is fine with it, but not being here to know he is okay really worried her. He was at work with me sitting on the couch in the lobby ( which i can't see from here ) and excused himself from the phone with his mom and sounded like he was trying to get up well then i heard gasping which is now common place since changing his sez meds. I went over picked up the phone and said hello and all i here is her scrambling so i hung up. Then started to talk to Joe to bring him out when his mom called my phone almost in a tizzy telling me lil Joe was having a sezure and he needed help i told her i was already here talking to him. She was like okay call me later when he's ok.

He also has failed Physical Therupy because he can not put any pressure on his knee, because he is constantly having sezures and falling on it. The crutches and having to hold his whole body up every step has agrivated his back. She recommended a wheelchair for away from home and using the crutches at home. So he now has a wheelchair, a little of his appitite returned though after using it thank goodness.

We have an emergency appointment with the orthopetic DR tommorrow because he is having sharp pains shooting through his knee cap and the bottom ligament is poped out. We are hoping that he can get Orthoscopic done so he can get back on it before he has to relearn how to walk because they are wanting him to jump hoops.

This friday we are also going into the Hospital so he can have an inpacient video taped Ambilitory EEG. Which is one of the first steps to see if he qualifies for VNS or perhaps selective/partial frontal lobectomy. He was told a long time ago that to much of his frontal Lobe was covered by sezure activity for a partial lobectomy to be done with out him turning into a veggie, but its still an option since now they have better equipment and this is a top notch hopsital. ( course his mom is worried even though its a test.. both for me and him ) I will have to drive back and forth to go to work Fri, Sat & Sun, unless they find someone to cover it, which we can't afford me taking off time from work, but this is important.

This month we had 15 appointments between joe and i for dr, breastfeeding/lamaze, and physical therupy. Next month there are already 7 schedualled appointments, however i should be going to the dr every week here soon. So next month is going to be a MESS of dr visits and maybe a surgery on Joe's knee * crosses my fingers *, my mom visiting 3 days, ect. Having someone else to drive Joe to his appointments although i still will want to be there most of the time would be very helpful. Expecially so we do not have to reschedual and cancel appointments for later on down the road because of my schedual.

Egads, that is a lot of appointments.

LOL, @ almost smacking him for suggesting a red eared slider :). Ours was a hoot and was sorry we had to give her away but we live in an apartment and had an 85 gallon tank as it was and she quickly out grew it. Oh, you are right cleaning the tank is not an easy chore and if you aren't religious about it. EEEWW. they smell.

I really hope this all works with your MIL. She sounds like a really neat lady, who is in a tight spot and probably will really love to be needed.

Yeah a lot lot of appointments... we are up to 10 already for March *lol* So this month is going to be worse then last.

I had to explain to him why that was a bad suggestion.. he just looks at me and says but you get them really small and they stay that way for a really long time don't they? I had to explain that a RES could grow to 4 inches in a year and how big of a tank they would need. Then his mom would be attached and what happened when it got to 11 inches and needed a HUGE tank and it needed cleaned out (at what is it 10-20 gallons per inch of turtle?) He sat there wide eyed agast. He just didn't know *lol*

ME too ... she doesn't want to move til June, but quite frankly when i get my taxes her butt is getting here come heck or high water which should be sometime this upcoming week. Joe was talking to his mom yesterday because she had paid her bills. He was like mom not to be nosey, but when your done paying your bills what do you have left over. She said $12. He then said oh thats tight after bills, gas, medicine, and food. She goes no thats just after bills that doesn't include gas, med, or food. We knew it was bad ... but not THAT BAD!!.

Now Joe is totally with me she needs to get her butt here NOW not in June. For our sanity(cause we could sure use the help) and so she can just make it month to month .
