Yep! Sometimes those weeks stretch into months, and I either cut it myself or decide to grow it out.

I feel your pain - I have needed a haircut for two weeks! I keep short hair and I have had to resort to using a blow dryer and curling iron!! :lame:

Yes! This pay is one of them. We have 80 dollars till Wed. (pay day). Hope it lasts. I'm trying not to spend hardly anything. I don't want to tap savings for anything. For dinner I made cheesy corn and broccoli chowder from leftover broccoli, corn, and a few small wedges of cheese. Turned out pretty good. I guess things could be worse.

I am in a habit of saying "ok next week" to the haircut and then it gets to the point I cant stand it I will eventually get it cut..having planned to get it cut 2-3 weeks before.

Yup - been there! Now when I make my appointment, usually a month ahead, I put it on that next month's budget sheet so I know I either have to put money aside now or do without something else later. Seems to work so far!

I know exactely where you are coming from and I empathize with you. I just gave up and decided to let mine grow out and I trim my ends myself. It is alot less trouble....but I spend more on conditioner, shampoo etc since it is long. :nails:

I sure know what you mean. I gave up trying to afford a haircut and went to trimming and cutting my own. Just takes lots of practice.

My Mom would wait so long in between hair cuts and touch-ups that I talked her into getting a wig. She wears it all the time now.

Two weeks ago I was getting so aggravated, I kept thinking I would have enough $ to go to my favorite salon (it's 1 1/2 hours away). Things kept popping up like: birthdays at work, family birthdays, price increases at the grocery store causing more to go towards our food budget, and snowstorms (making the long drive to the salon impossible).

I finally gave up on the salon until spring when I can save more money and the weather improves. I actually went to a Super Cuts with a dollar off coupon. $11 for a hair cut and of course I tipped. Not bad though. This hair cut looks good and isn't much different from the one at the salon. I normally just get a trim anyways. I like the salon though because I have a favorite hair dresser and the hair washing is so relaxing. I didn't pay for any frills at Super Cuts. Then I came home and dyed my own hair with $6 box of hair dye (bought with a coupon) I sure felt better the next day at work! I was feeling depressed because my hair was looking so blah and ratty!

I hope you find a less expensive alternative to make sure you get a hair cut. It can make such a difference in confidence at work. I am not saying it's because of the hair, but this week I was told I was doing an amazing job, above and beyond what was asked at work and I was being considered for a raise :):):)
This is rare where I work. Whatever you can do to boost your self confidence can sometimes help you in the long run :).

Hang in there! Can you trim any of it yourself?

Do you have a beauty school near you? I just talked to a friend who gets her hair cut at one and the cost is $5ish. I was going to look into it. I get my hair cut about 4 times a year, plus one perm, so thankfully I don't spend in this area. And if I can get my perm done at the college too - that would be a great cost saver. Maybe I can get one every 9 months instead of one a year!

I shaved my head myself when I was in the Army, now that I am out, I am growing my hair and beard out. I grew my hair long several times and got sick of it, cut it off. Now once it gets long enough I just tie it back in a ponytail and trim off the excess. My beard hair is so rough that growing a beard saves me like 10 dollars a month on blades, takes a bit of getting used to though. So now I basically look like a mountain man, my beard is 4 inches long, I dont trim it or anything, just let it grow.

I usually cut my own hair
but I am a hairdresser
also I come from a family FULL of hairdressers
so I pretty much would never need to pay for a hc ever again, YAY

I cut my own hair, it's actually quite simple. I wear it in a ponytail all the time, so it works. I just tie it in a ponytail, grab the ponytail, measure two inches or so past my closed fist, then squeeze the ponytail tight and run no guard clippers over the end.

:lol3: Do they still make those things?

I cut all my families hair and mine. I think I would hate to pay for a haircut now. Once in a great while I will treat myself to one.

What is worse is when you don't have the money to get your child's hair cut. When my son was in Kindergarten we were having a particularly bad time. My son needed a haircut but I just didn't have the $5.00 to get it for him. One afternoon when I went to pick him up his teacher pulled me aside and told me another parent had called him a girl not knowing he was a boy because his hair had gotten so long. She told me that if we were having a tough time of it she would loan me the money to get his hair cut. I was so embarrassed. I cried when I got back in the truck. I didn't have the first $1.00 in my purse. I came home and dug around finally ending up getting in his piggy bank to go get his hair cut. My husband was furious that she said anything in the first place.

This is a problem with society, not you. We are taught from birth that men should have short hair, and it becomes a common thing, although short hair is a recent thing in civilization. I wear my hair long, and have never been mistaken for a female. I suppose with little kids it is different, as they are not taught to question society.

That is a very good point and that went through my head as well.

That is the exact reason why I decided to grow my hair out. I pin it up with lots of pretty hair sticks. Now I do not have to worry about the expense of hair cuts. I trim my own split ends.
