Hubby noticed that diesel fuel was over $4 (+$.50?)a gal. Just looking in your kitchen alone...what wasn't somehow delivered to you by diesel fuel?

What changes will you be making? We'll be eating from our garden& local gardens.
I hope we can & will find an alternative besides burning our crops for fuel & soon. jmho.

I haven't even thought about it yet but no doubt we will have to adjust our food budget as a result of the increasing fule prices to deliever our food.

Hubby & I were watching one of the news shows the other night and a trucker was talking about how it had just cost him almost $1000 to fill his truck!!! They are definitely going to have to continue to pass the increase in their costs off to us the consumer...that's just the way it works and not a whole lot we can do about.

Many truckers will be going out of business I'm sure, especially if the costs are not contained. Our gov't has surely created a mess that it is going to take us years to recover from...if ever!

Everything in our home depends on diesel fuel. (DH is a trucker) He is a company driver (company pays for fuel) so it doesn't come directly out of our pockets, but the increased costs have led to loads being combined and some cancelled, which means less miles, less work, and less pay for us.

My dad's an owner/operator and I know it's going to hit my parent's hard.

While my dad is 66 yrs old, he's not ready to slow down and retire. Been a trucker for 40 years and he still LOVES it. This might be the push though he needs to sell his truck and slow down a bit driving part time for a company.

Yep the fuel costs are going to affect us all.........

Makes me thankful I live in an area where we can get a larger variety of things locally.

I know I cringe everytime the bill for Hubbies Diesel. Its one of the reasons why we never seem to have any extra money left at the end of the month and it keeps going up:surprise:...He has had to raise what he charges to haul grain and livestock its just hard on everyone!!! And Yes I am putting in a garden too this year to try to help out and if I can keep our goat herd out of it I hope to can some veggies!! I hope prices come down soon but I have the feeling its not and so is gas prices!

It's really scary.

We are planning a bigger garden this year. I am hoping it is successful!

I was also just reading of a new farmers market in our area that we will check out.

We are also planning a bigger garden this year. One of our goals, or at mine anyway, is to become more self-sufficient. We raise chickens and rabbits and sell what we can but its been hard since I lost my job in February. Was doing great in the egg sells at work. Our local Farmer's Market starts this weekend and I'm hoping to sell some baked goods and 'live' rabbits. I've also been trying to get a sewing business going and have been doing embroidery on baby items I've been making with fabric that I thankfully had stockpiled. Don't know if it will help but will get my name and stuff out there.

I'd love to sell my chicken and duck eggs there but you have to have an egg license to sell at the market but you don't need one if you sell from your home. Our area is very rural so I don't know if I would be getting much advertising by putting a sign up on the road but I'm gonna try.

Best wishes for everyone thru these hard times.
