Do you think any large chain restaurant would have free large glass jars I could have? I'd really like to get 10 to store stuff in and wonder where to start my hunt. Something like the large pickle jars.

Try rest. or bars, bars go through a lot with olives and such. Also, think a long the lines of bagel shops, delis and places that serve pickles for lunch dishes. Good luck!

It depends on what you want to store in the jars. Often it is very difficult to get the smell out of the glass jars, especially when they are pickle jars.

I love using the large canning jars, not the quarts, but the 2 qt. jars. You can often find them at goodwill or at yard sales. Istore anything from popcorn, yeast, beans, etc. in mine and they are made so that the smell doesn't stay in them for some reason.

I also use canning quart jars for storing soup mixes, some beans, etc. You can decorate them with a piece of material cut in a circle and tied with a pretty ribbon.

I usually find them at yard sales, you can ask at local restaurants but most get items in plastic now.... I use them to make cookie jars and they are getting harder to find... I don't have any trouble getting the smell out.... I soak jars in hot, soapy water and get the smell and labels off...
