I checked this book out of the library. Despite it being 15 years old, there was still a waiting list!
So far, I'm really impressed. I thought it would be so simple: how many hours you have to work to pay for something, and if it's worth those hours. But it digs much deeper into our relationship with money, and how we can pare down to live a simpler life. :applause:
I think I'm going to buy a copy (used, of course). Besides the Tightwad Gazette, it's the only other frugal book so far that I'd like to have a copy of my own to refer back to.
Has anyone else tried to do the nine steps of this book?

I actually bought this book a few years ago but I had just skimmed through it. I noticed it a couple of weeks ago while unpacking some books and I was thinking then that I really should take my time to really read it.
Thanks for the reminder! :)

I just got the book also...found it cheap on amazon. I have been reading The tightwad gazette so I haven't started this one yet...but I have heard great things about it.

I bought it many years ago. At the time, I couldn't get into it, so I gave it away. I wish I still had it. I'd like to read it again to see if it would make a bigger impact on me now.

I love that book! It was the first book I had read on frugal living and it really brought some of my behaviours to my attention. The most significant being how much I had to work to pay for something. The second thing was I could be spending more time on things that were important to me if I spent less time at work. So simple.......why didn't I think of that?

I had it for a couple of years and would flip back and forth through it. Lots of stuff stuck with me from it but I don't really remember 9 steps  . I did get my start of really looking into financial independence and simple living from this book. I wish the investment advice was still as valid as it was back then.
I do try to look at everything in a time value kind of way and am working very hard on getting the family to the point where DH and I can stop working.
