View Full Version : In a panic/can't breath
G'MaDebbie 03-19-2008, 11:47 PM I feel as if someone just knocked all the air out of me. My husband told me that he may get laid off tonight (he works 3rd shift). If this happens, there is no doubt we will have to sell our home. We are already at the point of struggling, so keeping this house wouldn't be an option for us. Not to mention we are in the process of re-doing the kitchen. I know it's just a house and not the end of the world, but we have worked our butts off to make it our home, not to mention the personal hurdles we have overcome (long story).
I want to fall down and cry, but I am not going to allow myself to do that at this point...tomorrow morning may be a different story.
I also just realized that we are trying to refinance this house and if he does get laid off, there is no way that will happen. (severe panic setting in).
We have been in tough situations before and always found a way out, but this time I don't see it happening given the financial mess it will leave us in. It seems like once we dig ourselves out of a hole, someone else fills it back in for us. I am a if it is broke, I can fix it kind of person, I'm not so sure this time.
Thanks for letting me vent..tomorrow may not be a very good day for us.

frugalfoster 03-20-2008, 12:32 PM We are all wondering how things went last night. I hope that your worries are unfounded. Pease keep in touch.....we all care!
frugalfriend 03-20-2008, 12:44 PM Praying he is able to keep his job. If not, that something else comes along quickly. :hugz:
G'MaDebbie 03-20-2008, 12:44 PM Update.....Hubby came home this morning and said that his company is going to transfer him to another plant, same shift, same pay, just different location.
I am breathing a little easier this morning, but I am still very nervous about his future there as this transfer is not forever and there are no guarantees that he won't get bumped.
I want you all to know that I did not sleep very well last night and did some very much needed soul searching and looking at the way we take our jobs and lifestyle for granted. We don't live high on the hog so to say, but we aren't in poverty either. We do struggle because our mortgage payment is so high (which is the first thing on my list to do something about today).
I want to thank ALL of you who left me a note or prayer or idea to help in this situation. If you ALL truly knew how much it means to me to have someone just take the time to write a word of encouragement or send out a prayer. Ok, the tears are rolling now. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH....I will be sure to keep you ALL in my prayers as well!!
brenda67 03-20-2008, 12:48 PM (((HUGS)) I'm glad things didn't turnout for the worse for you and your Dh..
Samigirl 03-20-2008, 12:49 PM That's good news! Now, you'll have some time to prepare for the worst in the case of a future layoff.
C@rol 03-20-2008, 12:50 PM I'm so sorry. :grouphug:
frugalfoster 03-20-2008, 12:50 PM Yay! That's great news!!!
C@rol 03-20-2008, 12:52 PM I'm so sorry. :grouphug:
Couldn't edit. Sorry.
But just read you good news. So happy for you.
mom2knk 03-20-2008, 01:05 PM :hugz: Good news about him moving to another plant!! Sending good thoughts and prayers that this will work out and be a permanent position for him!!
mombottoo 03-20-2008, 05:42 PM Glad things are looking up for the time being!!! So many companies in our area are downsizing or moving, so I know how tense this entire issue is for your family.
My bil had to move to Maine in order to keep his job, he worked at the paper mill...and we both know what direction that place is headed. One of my son's moved to North Carolina just to find a job that he could support his family on. Hopefully, things will pick up for your hubby's company and all will be secure!!!
dancar3 03-20-2008, 06:24 PM I am SO happy to hear the good news.....even if it might be temporary (hopefully not though), it will still give you some time to help get things in order if needed. Hugs and prayers go out your way.............:hug2:
I glade the worst didn't happen but now would be the time to get your ducks in a row so to speak.
Elisbeth 03-20-2008, 07:15 PM :hug2: and prayers for you and yours
Michelle68 03-20-2008, 07:39 PM I'mglad he was able to keep his job. :hugz:

Missourimom 03-20-2008, 07:46 PM I'm sure you feel a sigh of relief. I'm so glad he wasn't laid off yesterday. Hopefully, you'll be able to get things together in case it happens in the future.
shoiji 03-20-2008, 08:17 PM Good to hear your husband is being transferred. I hope you are able to refinance your home as you wanted. Atleast now you can try and get things better organized or prepared in case there is another lay-off. Keep us posted. I am always amazed of all the stories of people losing a job and finding one so quickly.
Take care of yourselves and hopefully you relax a bit. : ) Sending you good thoughts.
LuvMyHubby 03-20-2008, 08:50 PM My bil had to move to Maine in order to keep his job, he worked at the paper mill...and we both know what direction that place is headed. One of my son's moved to North Carolina just to find a job that he could support his family on. Hopefully, things will pick up for your hubby's company and all will be secure!!!
Your BIL is so lucky. Paper Mill jobs here in Maine have been sparse and the layoffs horrific. I am glad that he was able to keep his job.
LuvMyHubby 03-20-2008, 08:54 PM I'm glad that you hubby still has his job at least this way you can start formulating a plan for any "just in case" situation.
Paper Mills and Shoe shops here have had massive layoffs over that last 5 years and our state has many benefits for those who lose their jobs including job retraining (not that this replaces and income but it helps take the sting away) maybe your hubby can discreetly find out if the company and/or the state you live in has any retraining benefits for people who lose jobs in his industry.
G'MaDebbie 03-20-2008, 10:25 PM I glade the worst didn't happen but now would be the time to get your ducks in a row so to speak.
Ann...I am getting our ducks,geese,dogs,birds...you name it, they will all be in a row! lol...wow that felt good to laugh a bit!
My husband works in the aerospace field, and it is a rough time right now, but I am so thankful that he still has his job for now. We have really been dragging our feet on responsibilities and this was a HUGE eye opener as to what we need to do.
frugalfoster 03-21-2008, 01:04 AM Isn't it amazing that how when we coast along in life not giving much thought to finances, that life decides to throw us a curve ball and wake us up....LOL....Maybe that was your alarm clock going off!
Athena31 03-21-2008, 09:22 PM Here is to your future and things looking up for you all.
LadyNada 03-22-2008, 06:10 PM Sending positive prayers and thoughts your direction!
Droppedonmyhead 03-22-2008, 06:46 PM I could feel the panic in your words. I am so glad that everything turned out for you and your family.
FreesiaE 03-22-2008, 07:10 PM I'm glad that everything has worked out for now. Even if there is the thought that this may come to an end in the nearer future, you now have time to make a plan.
