View Full Version : Watch those Walgreen receipts!

I went to Walgreens today and bought some make-up on sale. It was BOGOF and it also was marked down. On top of that, if I paid at the make-up cashier counter I got an additional dollar off.

What a screw-up this was! Not only did the prices not ring up for the sale price but the register did not take off the free item's price, either! I noticed that the bill seemed higher than I figured and so I looked and sure enough, the free item was not showing up as taken off the total on my receipt. This led to the sales clerk asking for a manager to try and fix it. He said that although the receipt didn't show it, the register took off the price of the free item. I was doubtful but decided to take his word for it. Then I went to my car, took out my calculator and saw that I was right after all, and the manager was wrong. I had to go back in, call manager back up and have everything re-rung up and corrected. It amounted to over $4 difference.

I've never heard of such an excuse that it would not show up on the receipt. I wonder how many others have took their word for it on that kind of a mistake? The cashier apologized (manager seemed irritated) and said that they don't often put the sale prices in the computer and that screws up the registers and the cashiers can't keep up with the prices.

In other words, people are getting screwed out of advertised savings on a regular basis. This is a warning for the rest of you to watch your receipts, especially at Walgreens when it comes to makeup and other sale items not ringing up correctly and not actually getting your BOGOF for free!

I've had that happen a couple of times, too. I'm not shopping there as much as I used to.

I has a similar experience at Walgreens. I bought several items on sale, but paid much more. Example 3 for $5 after 2 dollar coupon prints, should have been $2.34 each or 3/$7 & use the $2 coupon on next shopping trip. Well some varieties/flavors came up regular price, so the cashier didn't ring up one item to off set the difference. Of course I still paid too much, but it was so confusing & I didn't want the employee to get in trouble. It hard to figure all those different prices (sale price in ad shows after coupon price, but you use the coupon on your next purchase). Anyway, I'm not shopping there much since its out of town & I'm not able to use the register coupons before they expire.

I have that problem all the time. When I asked about it here on this forum awhile back everyone who responded said they had no problems.

We have reported the problem to several store managers who all say the prices are set and registers are programed by corporate. This last time dh wrote to corporate and they sent the complaint back to the local manager who basically said he didn't know why and didn't know what he could do. He did say "we will always make it right if we make a mistake." My response was that since they are aware of the problem the "mistakes" shouldn't still be happening and it should not be the consumers responsibility to catch them.

Always check your receipts you just never know what will or won't ring up correctly. I hate stores too that have the registers programmed not to show your sale prices or B1G1F stuff until they hit total. How can you keep track and see if everything even rings up corrcetly until after your sale is processed. UGH!
