I went to Walgreens today and bought some make-up on sale. It was BOGOF and it also was marked down. On top of that, if I paid at the make-up cashier counter I got an additional dollar off.
What a screw-up this was! Not only did the prices not ring up for the sale price but the register did not take off the free item's price, either! I noticed that the bill seemed higher than I figured and so I looked and sure enough, the free item was not showing up as taken off the total on my receipt. This led to the sales clerk asking for a manager to try and fix it. He said that although the receipt didn't show it, the register took off the price of the free item. I was doubtful but decided to take his word for it. Then I went to my car, took out my calculator and saw that I was right after all, and the manager was wrong. I had to go back in, call manager back up and have everything re-rung up and corrected. It amounted to over $4 difference.
I've never heard of such an excuse that it would not show up on the receipt. I wonder how many others have took their word for it on that kind of a mistake? The cashier apologized (manager seemed irritated) and said that they don't often put the sale prices in the computer and that screws up the registers and the cashiers can't keep up with the prices.
In other words, people are getting screwed out of advertised savings on a regular basis. This is a warning for the rest of you to watch your receipts, especially at Walgreens when it comes to makeup and other sale items not ringing up correctly and not actually getting your BOGOF for free!
