Wonder how much that trip (gas wise) to wherever will cost you?
Costs me over $6 round trip to go to the grocery store.

That's a pretty neat little tool there. Didin;t work for me, cause I go a back way to the store that is about half the distance and I couldn;t tell it to go the shortest route (apparantly dirt roads are not on the map!!
). If I went on the freeway, it says it costs me $3.53 to go the grocery store. $2.50 is probably more accurate. Still, it's something to consider when I think I want to run to the store for a few deals.
My drive to "civilization" (Wichita) costs just over $12.50, not counting any driving around I do once I get there......not as bad as I thought, actually.Last edited by IntlMom; 08-11-2008 at 08:54 AM.

This tells me it takes almost $7 in gas to go to the commissary. BUT it also takes me through the LONGEST route to get there

How about 27 cents to go to the store and back
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I'm lucky to be only 6 blocks away - so I can walk it. It is considerably farther to any of the discaount stores, though, so I have to take into account whether it TRULY saves or not. Usually, I'm pretty good about combining many tasks into one trip out, so I'm not very wasteful in this way. I'll have to try this for the cost of going on longer trips though. Thanks for sharing it.

Awesome tool. Thanks for posting the link to the site. I entered the info for our trip home on Friday and it said 77 dollars. Now, I had budgeted at 100 each way. I think my overage may still be used, as I am certain we will have to stop at a few rest stops, and quite a bit of the trip is mountainous, which will reduce gas mileage.

I input how much gas is at the gallon rate because like every other US website, it can't compute metric. For a one-way trip from Calgary to Sherwood Park, Alberta (which is east of Edmonton), it costs us $42.51 for a one way trip. That's only 190 miles.

I used a site just like that when we were budgeting for our road trip from Colorado Springs to Upstate New York. It worked wonders for us, because it allowed us to budget correctly.
