used tires?
anyone ever put used tires on their car instead of new ones?
I'm going to need two new front tires before winter and I took a different route home yesterday and saw a sign for "used tires for sale" out front of a Automotive Garage.
any advice on this one?Judy

I'm not a fan of them, but when I was a broke teenager, it was all I could afford.
If you insist on doing it, ask the mechanic if they can get 2 of the same kind.Russ

Since you don't insist, I suggest 4 *new* tires then. When you buy used you have no idea what you're getting.
and you're welcome. Glad to help. *send cookies*

Do you know how to inspect a tire and how much tread wear is legal in your state?
Like Russ, I had them when I could afford nothing else, but they won't last long and I'm not sure I recommend them for winter driving. It's one thing to have nearly bald tires in summer and quite another when the roads get slick.Use it up, Wear it out,

Just because it's used doesn't mean it's bald. If it's got decent tread at a decent price...why not?

I've done it all the time. I have been going to the same place for years. They are very careful about what they sell. I also would get 2 of the same make and tread.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.
