Drivers License & Registration Costs
I am putting off going to the DMV (need a dumb eye test or else I'd do it online) to renew my license because I hate the lines and the money I need to shell out. That had me wondering how much it costs you for your license and registration.
I'm in NY & costs are:
New license, good for 8 years costs: $64.50
Registration, good for 2 years: $55~*Darlene*~

$20 fee for a five year renewal here in Iowa.
Vehicles are calculated based on make/model/year, etc. My car is 220$ per year, hubby's is 340$ per year, and hubby's winter car is $23 per year. (Approximate figures).
They are tax deductible though.McD

I'm actually kind of surprised at how low the fees are in NY. I guess I've got the "Everything in NY is expensive" stereotype going.
The fees for licenses, registrations, etc. all recently nearly doubled in Florida...but that's because they hadn't gone up in such a long time.
License is 8 years, though my first one is good for almost 9 it looks like... (issued 1/7/10; expires 11/13/18, my birthday) and it is $48
Registration renewal is $55 for my vehicle (goes by weight), includes all the little admin. fees and such
Original registration in FL for any vehicle that is not replacing a wrecked, sold, junked vehicle is like $225 now, it was only $150 before.

The registration in NY is based on weight & class of vehicle. My van's registration is more than dh's baby truck because it weighs more & carries more passengers or something like that. I believe the registration on the van is $65 for 2 yrs.
PLUS in NY we have to have the vehicle inspected yearly which is now $21.
Darlene, I was able to renew online then send in a form signed by my eye doctor (I had just had my bi-yearly eye exam). No lines, no waiting

I forgot about the inspections in some states; you're talking about emissions testing right? I know Florida had that for a time, but not currently.

Does any other state besides Florida have the law about renewing drivers license and having so much garbage before they will renew.
If ever divorced, have to have divorce papers
Marriage license
Utility bills in your name/address
Bunch more crap
Any other stateBank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

My driver's license expires in 2047.
Fees are minimal. $25 (16-39) is the highest and $10 (50+) is lowest, depending on your age.
My registration isn't very much because I drive an older vehicle. It's in the $20 range, BUT my car also has to pass emissions yearly, so I have to pay for that ($13), as well.
This is in Arizona.

Yearly Registration is $76 plus taxes. Any vehicle any year. Insurance is another story.
License renewal is $65 for 5 years.
If you have any health issues you need a medical form filled and it costs upto $150.

Niko, I think it has something to do with the Patriot Act. When I was in to get my Florida license there was an elderly woman with a friend or caregiver, and the older woman was trying to renew her license. She goes "I'm 90 years old and I've never had to have any of this stuff before, and this is horsesh!t !" She didn't have her birth certificate and the other woman asked her if she had is someplace at home, and the woman goes, "I don't even know if the town I was born in is even there anymore." So the guy at the desk gave her a piece of paper that had every state's phone number that you could call to get a replacement birth certificate. She was NOT a happy camper. It was this way before I left Indiana, though, too. Of course, I got my license during the W. Bush years; post 9/11 so it didn't come as any real surprise to me.
Edit: Found it
"Rhode Island's governor has decided to bring the state into compliance with the REAL ID Act. This federal act, passed under the umbrella of the Patriot Act, requires that the original documents presented by an individual obtaining an ID be scanned and authenticated. These documents are then linked to a secured record."
So it looks like maybe not EVERY state is like this.

you need a ton of ID to prove who you are in NJ to get a new license- and marraige etc cert too
once you got the latest version that was started afew years back its easier
i think its a federal thing*~Debbi~*

Not just emissions testing...they test the safety of the vehicle...tire wear, working horn, working emergency break, no warning lights on (like Check Engine light), working headlights/taillights/backup lights, no cracks/broken windows, functioning bumpers, etc.
When we lived in Alabama we only had to have the vehicle inspected once...at the time of purchase. We saw a lot of vehicles on the road that seriously should NOT have been driven lol.
