take the car for a spin . Park your car. When you get out, feel the rim (not the hubcap) if the rim is hot, hot, hot, your caliper is seized and not allowing rotor to spin freely, thus creating a hot rim.
If they keep giving you a song and dance, find another mechanic that will honor the warranty.It is what it is.
