Lentil Burgers


Recipe Description
Easy to make, just make sure the lentils are cool enough you don't burn yourself​
Preparation Steps:
Rinse lentils in cold water, strain well​

Easy​
Time Needed:
Ingredients:
1 1/4 c lentils
3 c water
1 c chopped onion
1 c grated carrots
3 c bread crumbs
1 egg
1 t garlic powder
1/2 t oregano
1/2 t salt
2 T margarine (omit if using PAM)
sliced cheese (optional)​
Serves:
Directions:
In saucepan, bring water to boil
Add lentils, reduce heat to low
Cover and cook 15 mins
Add onion and carrots
Cook 15 mins more until lentils are tender
Remove from heat and cool slightly
Stir in bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, oregano and salt
Melt margarine in skillet/Pam
Drop lentil mix by rounded 1/2 c
Flatten in to patties
Cook until firm and golden brown

Top each patty with cheese​

and I just so happen to have a quart of lentils in my fridge ..... ;)

What type of texture should I be looking for after adding the egg, breadcrumbs and seasonings, something that holds its shape like raw burger would?

Neat! I would not have thought of these. I think I will have to call them 'patties' instead of burgers to less-upset the natives here. With the price of beef becoming downright ridiculous as of late, I think burgers-on-the-grill this summer will be a real treat for us, but it's nice to have some new substitutes besides chicken and pork. I am trying to incorporate more beans into our diet, as they're cheaper and healthier, and this will be a perfect addition!
