Grocery Challenge Inspires

I think it's great that some of you are engaged in a grocery challenge. Those bloggers have inspired me to start a grocery challenge of my own. Last week I chose an amount of $30. There are two adults and two teens in my home, so I was concerned (yet excited) to see what would happen. I managed to stay on budget, going over by only $2.45.
The hardest part were the two days before I could shop again, when the fridge and freezer were looking pretty bare. But the day I could shop for the next week, the fridge was full of tempting foods and I was cheered up again.
Most people worry about having enough food to feed their family, but it's good to face that fear as well. I did that as I watched the food diminish and then realized my fear was unfounded when I was allowed to shop again and filled the fridge.
So, keep up with the challenges and keep heart! It's only as bleak as we believe it to be. Reality is usually a different story

What did you get for your $30? How much of your weekly menu is coming out of your freezer or your stockpile? Just curious.

I can identify with the "empty fridge' fear. Mine is looking sparse, but the reality there is plenty of food in the house and, more importantly, I haven't thrown anything out.
I would always be tossing fruit & veges that hadn't been used up. Now they are all used & my meals are more interesting and varied.

Contrary Housewife, For the $30 I bought a 10lb bag of carrots and a 10lb bag of potatoes, both priced at $1.77(great sale!). I also bought a large $5 smoked ham, bread, bologna, apples, bananas, $7 pkg of chicken thighs that I split into three meals, plus a few other items. My "stockpile" consists of four cans of baked beans, one can of tomatoes, four cans of tomato paste and a box of couscous. I am not a big stockpiler, so every dollar counts. In the freezer, I had no meat but I did have some leftover frozen peas and a package of bacon.
