I think something supernatural has happened to my finances!

For years, I have lived a "zero balance" life. Is it the day before payday? Yes? Then I am out of money, because money was only meant to stretch that far, and absolutely no farther! I believed this so strongly that I would actually find ways to spend money if there happened to be a bit leftover, just to maintain my zero balance forward.

Since starting down the debt reduction path, I am putting much more of my income toward paying down debts. Ergo, I should be more financially strapped than ever.

Here comes the supernatural part:

Tomorrow is pay day. Weirdly, I have $100 in a mini-emergency fund. Weirdly, there is a balance of $60 in my chequing account. Weirdly, all my bills are paid, and my kitchen is full of food.

What the..what?! How did that happen?

What I am learning is that there is a direct relationship between how much attention I pay to my finances and how much money I have, and how much stress I have to endure.

Less attention = less money, more stress.
More attention = more money, less stress.

So next time someone tells you that you are being cheap, or to lighten up about your budget, tell them that you are in fact dabbling in magic, and have found a way to literally "make money by paying attention.
