I broke down and turned the heat on today. It is amazing we were able to go this long. Most years we struggle to make it to the first of November. As a matter of fact, I hung clothes outside and used the grill yesterday. We hold off on the heat until the inside temperature stays in the mid fifties. I feel we are living free when the heat or air is not being used. It was fifty-three in here this morning. At five o'clock, I was awakened by my wife. It seems our cat was playing with a mouse on her bed. I had to get up and dispose of it. I am not sure what was wrong with letting Hoodie eat it. It would have saved on dog food. It was cold enough then for me to decide it was time. We still have not seen a temperature of twenty-eight degrees yet so technically the growing season continues. The only thing I have out is cover crop wheat on the gardens. It is taller than ever before. Each evening there are several deer grazing it. I just hope we have a mild winter without ice. I am not sure I can deal with another ice storm so soon.

I envy you not turning on the heat till now. DH keeps it above 70 all winter, I always seak it down to about 65. It has been nice here in Iowa too. A little chilly today though so I think the coldness is coming!!

Ug, 70 is way too warm for us. We keep the house cooler than that in the summer. As for the mouse, he looked clean to me.

My tomatoes are still producing, so no heat for me yet. I am trying to make it to the new year without using any heat this month. (I broke down a couple of times last month, more for the luxury than the necessity.)

I HAVE kept a wood fire going on a couple of nights! Brr!!!
