I think people take themselves too seriously. It is a graduation not a funeral. I will allow cheering and air horns at my funeral along with dancing and having a great time. I am one of those low class white trash folks you are talking about. At both college graduations I cheered and I have the air horns ready for the next two. After paying 40k a year for 4 years on the second one I felt like having a party and it is quite normal, we were shocked at the first college graduation at how much fun people had,but I actively participated at the second graduation. I bought leis and I really went all out for my son as his high school did not allow lei's and was boring. I guess if you have a money lei or a certain colored flower lei you might be showing gang affiliation(NOT) My last daughter did not want to do the air horns but decided to participate at the end. My kids all appreciated that we would make idiots of ourselves to cheer them on. And my third daughter is excited when the whole family will get together and cheer her on. My oldest daughter is still working on her degree and looking forward for her turn.
