Daughter received the Athlete volunteer award.

Posted 12-07-2009 at 04:08 AM by hollyhill

It was a busy weekend. But My highlight was when my daughter received an unexpected award at the awards banquet of Volunteer of the year award. We expected her athlete accomplishments to be highlighted and they were, but it was nice that all her extra work was also acknowledged. She is always the first to pull up her sleeves to get to work when something needs doing. she is only 18 but has a great work ethic. She was given a beautiful plaque and a long sleeve merino wool layer top. She was thrilled,...

Christmas parades

Posted 12-05-2009 at 03:34 AM by hollyhill

Still didn't do any grocery shopping.
Lunch was grilled cheese and apple sandwiches, with squash cookies and mini mandarines.
Dinner was ham and white bean soup and perogies. Plus milk.
Snack was Hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies (after the Santa Claus parade).

I did a mystery shop today and made $12 and had a free breakfast. I then had my daughters skates sharpened. Total cost for skates was 10.99! What a deal. Now she will be able to go skating...

I ended up making a plum/mustard sauce for the ham steaks and it was very yummy. It was made using plum jam given to us by my greataunt and no one cared for the jam, so it was just waiting to be thrown out. But it tasted great as a ham glaze.
Then my two eldest came back from St. Johns ambulance with advent calenders from the supervisors. They even had one for my 12 yr. old who didn't go to the meeting because she was sick. I wasn't going to buy one this year because of my daughters diabetes...

Chestnuts?

Posted 12-02-2009 at 05:20 PM by hollyhill

What do you do with chestnuts? How do you store them. How long do they last? Recipes?
I was given about 5 lbs and I am trying to figure out what to do with them?
And Ham steaks, any good recipes? I am spending way to much time on the computor trying to find recipes etc...

Last night I made a great a chilli using butternut squash and cummin instead of tomatoes and chilli powder... It was so yummy. And served it with rosemary muffins.
So now I want something equally...

Getting organized.

Posted 12-02-2009 at 01:01 AM by hollyhill

It has been busy , like always.
My 12 year old performed in a couple of concerts this past weekend, with her celtic group. Both concerts were sold out and fabulous!

But now she has a cold. Not surprising with all the extra rehersals and late nights.

Did a big grocery shopping yesterday, with a lot of stock pile items. It was necessary, because we had been eating out of the pantry because I was too busy to shop
So yesterday was customer appreciation...
