debt - so easy to rack up, so difficult to pay back.

whew. almost done paying back the debt incurred over the summer. i had home repairs done over the summer with no regrets. i planned and executed going into debt. the condition of the house was "bringing me down" spiritually and emotionally. it was so worth it.
now the house is uplifting and a joy to walk into everyday.
president kimball (?) said the commandment "fix up and paint up your property and take good care of it" so true. psst.. But, kim, i don''t think he meant for you to go into debt to do it... ha ha.
my affirmation for the past six months has been "i create prosperity and abundance for me and this household." it takes the focus off the negativity of the debt and send energy to the universe for what you do want to focus on.
i had been praying for how to pay this back. i tried paying it back 300 a month but that was slow. To quote dave ramsey "i have a tiny shovel". I ended up finally getting frustrated with this and it was bogging me down so i used my emergency fund to pay off 4000 of the 5000. i finally became willing to cut the cable off and did so. this freed up an additional 55 bucks a month for debt.
reminds me of Bro. Eyrings conference talk Oct 2010 http://lds.org/general-conference/20...ng&media=video where he was listening to a conference talk and they mentioned paying off your mortgage. he turned to his wife and said "think we can do it?" they dismissed the idea until later that night it popped into his head about a property they had been trying to sell for years. monday morning he called the real estate agent and the agent said, "you know, no one has been interested in that property for years and yesterday a man came and asked about this very property" . eyring said, "now some of you would consider this a coincidence"... anyway, they sold the property for a few dollars over what the mortgage was and paid off their house. I think that when we become willing, god sends the help.
sunday, i spoke with my bishop about my situation and we prayed about it. later that day some LDS friends came by to see if i still had the lenox christmas china for sale. i sold it on the spot. Yay god!
later that same day, i discovered i had an extra 1000 in the taxes and insurance account. this one i am waiting for to make sure i haven't forgotten any bills.
edit: i forgot to say i received in the mail yesterday an unexpected $264 from the health insurance company paid my out of network medical bills. i had paid cash. yay god!
this will complete the debt.
i will not promise not to do this again, becuase until i get my emergency fund and car replacement fund built up, it might happen again. but, with wise counsel from the church and others, i am following the LDS money management plan. very similar to dave ramsey and mary hunt.
the house has a feeling that is indescribable -- of beauty, prosperity and abundance. the happy house.
my food storage is prosperous and abundant. i received a target gift card for twenty bucks. i want to build a shampoo and conditioner storage. don't have a years supply of this.
i feel a strong pull to pay off the debt and start 2011 debt free.
it will take 2.6 years with no mishaps to get the emergency fund to 10,000 again. i plan to do the "90 day thing" that i do - 90 days of "no spend days" and then march 1 take a break (my birthday), 90ish days until summer break (go to williamsburg? probably not) 90 days til school starts (always expensive but sinking funded), and then 90 more "no spend" days until thanksgiving/xmas/sinking funded. So i think step 3 will take 3 years to do it without "acting out" or deprivation.
