Happy Memorial Day!
Today I'm enjoying the sunshine from a distance. As in....out the window, from the sofa, where I'm cooped up with a blankey and a big box of kleenex and the remote control, fighting the latest cold/flu thingy that's making its way around. Not how I'd intended to spend this weekend at all. We should have been in Seattle having a good time, but looking on the bright side I guess we did save money this weekend by staying home
I called the advice nurse at Kaiser yesterday to see if I should come in and they said "oh it's just a virus and there's nothing we can do (duh! ever heard of antivirals and Tamiflu?) so unless you get worse you'll just have to ride it out. At least I called first and didn't spend the $15 or $20 co-pay to have them tell me that. I would have been soooo ticked!! Every year I tell myself I need to look at an alternative to Kaiser and so far I haven't made the jump but I'm seriously considering it. "There's nothing we can do if it's a virus"....especially when I know better and people are dying from this swine flu virus? Well that just seems somewhat irresponsible to me. Then again, maybe I'm just being cranky because I'm cooped up and feeling like crap.
On a better note, I'm down almost 6 pounds. Hubby and I had done LA Weight Loss a couple years ago -- he was very successful, me so-so (didn't know at the time I was allergic to soy which was in their prepackaged foods) -- anyway, we met someone who had great success doing the Metabolic Research Center program (yikes! uber-expensive!) and were considering it but then thought hey we have all the info we need on the LAWL program and know what to substitute for their LA lite bars, so why not just do that again? Just because all the centers closed, there's no reason we can't do the program by ourselves. And so far, we're doing great at it. It's a very good diet (we're using the older, color-coded plans - the newer, numbered ones have too much starch for us) which was unfortunately associated with a very poorly run company. So we've kept the good part (the diet) and making some progress here.
Now if I can just get rid of this cold/flu thingy and get out and get some exercise...!!
