I came to the conclusion that saving while you have debt is not worthwhile, estimates on http://www.breadmarket.co.uk show that a good savings account pays around 5% in interest while the average credit card will charge you upwards of 12% in interest, in this case you're loosing more than double what you're saving! an argument can be made for wanting to put some money aside for those unexpected emergency events but you can always put those costs on the credit card, which until that point wouldn't be costing you too much.
