Canning?

I'm thinking ahead somewhat, but Christmas really isn't that far away. I'd like to do some canning and make some jams/jellies/sauces/etc and give them as Christmas gifts. But canning scares the living bejujus out of me.

However, I figure that if my grandmother can do it (or anybody's, for that matter), then I can do it. I want to try water bath canning first. I have to wait till we move, but then I'm going to get the stuff to do it, including a good book on the subject.

    Sounds like a plan - me too, only we're not moving!! Did you see Debbie's post about watermelon jelly? Perfect for gift giving!!

    The canning bible is the "Ball Blue Book"...you can sometimes find them at walmart or on amazon or half.com...the instructions are very clear and gives you lots of recipes.....good luck!!!!

    Sorry to hijack, but I wanted to thank missyali for the link - DH and I found a farm near our house & we're going this weekend to get some fresh produce! Now, to look for that Ball Blue Book Lovestoread mentioned. Good luck on learning canning!

    Good for you! I tried watermelon jelly the other day and it is soooo easy and quick. I am definitely going to be giving those as gifts this year.

    I was initially timid about canning but when I found out just how easy it was I was off to the races! And trust me, if I can can, anyone can can
