My parents get the strangest calls

Most people know that they are at the cottage for the summer, so they don't get calls from close friends. But they are involved in an organization and are one the main contacts, so there are occasional calls from people asking questions about this and that.
I always say they are at the cottage for the summer, and on two separate occasions (different people) the person then continued to talk to me, on and on and on, about the most bizarre things. Both times I was unable to even attempt to cut them off because they never stopped except to draw breath. Both times they were men (so much for stereotypes about chatty women), and both times they jumped from topic to topic without any rhyme or reason. They start with a question related to the organization, then veer off into the twilight zone. One talked about building expensive houses on gravel roads and the height of his nephew's christmas tree (and no, this isn't a hoa they are involved in, it's an historical/cultural group). These conversations go on for like half an hour and I have to be polite and feign interest because they are acquaintances of my parents.
And then the wrong numbers. I've never had so many strange calls from wrong numbers. People who don't believe they've called the wrong house and want to tell you their business anyway.
Today was my least favourite type of call - one of those guys who shouts "hello!", then waits expectantly for you to recognize his voice - and when you don't say anything asks who YOU are! I told him who I was - his response: "This isn't George?". Um no, it quite clearly is not George. Really though, what kind of person calls a house and says "who've I got?" ?? It drives me crazy. Don't call and demand to know who I am, you called me, I should be demanding to know who you are.
Okay, just had to get that out. Feeling better now.
