tomorrow is going to be a first for me. i will become a grandma. that is so strange. i am not even 40 yet!
this got me to thinking about my own granny.
she was such an incredible lady. not just in personality, but in actions as well.
she could sit and tell jokes with the best of them. she could sit for hours just listening to someone when they needed to talk. she would sit and crotchet afghans and doll dresses and shawls all the time. i don't think that there was ever a baby born in the family that didn't get a blanket made for it. i still have mine and all of my kids' blankets.
she was a great cook. she taught me all about making homemade things instead of buying convienience foods. she took time with all of us to teach as she cooked. i can remember being little and standing in the chair and having my own little bit of dough to roll out as she made dumplings or biscuts, pie crust or what ever she was making. she always let us help.
i can never remember a time when she wasn't taking care of someone. she was always trying to help. she took us in when we needed her. she tried her best to help anyone who she saw had a need.
she played the banjo, the guitar, and the hounddog. (upright bass) she tried her best to instill a love of music in all of us. i will always remember those days when there would be a house full of people with some sort of musical instrument and there would always be music in her house. her and my grandpa would always have people over to play and then we would have cake, coffee, cookies or something to eat. there was never a dull time in her house.
she killed me at aggravation all the time. she loved to play cards or board games. she would kick my butt at yathzee, and when i beat her at chinese checkers, she would just cackle.
i just pray that i am as good a grandmother as she was!
