  1. Renovation Started!

by , 09-06-2014 at 04:56 PM (Creative Call)
It started this past week. Tuesday the contractor arrived with help and started ripping out the kitchen. It took two days. Then the electricians came. They were supposed to take one day. They were here for two and will be here for two days next least. They found active knob and tube wiring throughout the house. Code says they have to remove it. Uhoh. Our renovation budget just exploded. Electricians do not come cheap.

We picked the paint colour for the kitchen walls ...
  2. Finished Mega Cooking

I finished my mega-cooking for the month of September in preparation for the renovation. Hubby thought he would not have to do any dishes all month. I had to enlighten him that there would be plastic storage containers and pots from side dishes that needed doing. And that we would need a bucket to put in the basement sink to wash dishes. Financial crisis averted. The second opinion on the dental work revealed it was mostly cosmetic and only one area needed a watch on it. Dentist said to come back and see him in 6 months.

Financial planner is great! Can't go into details because we signed a confidentiality agreement, but I can say she is worth every penny. She is helping us unearth and deal with things that need serious consideration prior to retirement.

I also decided to look at my medication this ...
  5. Trying something new

I use to buy at least 4 Sunday papers to get the value of couponing. I would download coupons, carefully watch every sales, keep up with points, take surveys in order to save a buck. Though I am still very frugal, I have cut back on a lot things that I use to do. I do not buy the papers anymore. I more careful in what I do buy. Now I just buy the inserts, which saves me 10.00 per week. I print out more coupons since I am able to get my ink at a discount. I would prefer to buy individual ...
