Juliette and I have been enjoying this week.

Last Friday, I decided to take her out of daycare ... it was a really hard decision for me to come to. Juliette is a very social little thing ... and sometimes, just too smart. I was afraid if I took her out of school, that she would be bored at home. I'm a waitress, but we live with some roommates right now, and my roommate offered to watch her when I work. So far, so good.

Sunday, as I was changing Juliette for bed, I noticed a bug bite on her right chest wall. I thought it looked like a bee sting ... or possibly a spider bite, so I called my mom who watches her on the weekend. She told me to just keep an eye on it, to make sure it looked the same the next day. Well, Monday night during her bath, the bite just looked 100x worse. I didn't know what was wrong with her at all ... but it just didn't look "right". My roommates mother is an RN, so we called her for her advice. She thought it sounded like it could be infected, and I should call her doctor.

I called her doctor's office, which, surprise surprise ... they were out of appointments for the evening. I LOVE her doctor's office, and we've been using them since I was a small little thing ... however, it drives me crazy for them to be out of appointments. They instructed me to call my normal office so I could talk to the on call nurse. I did this, and got a call back from the nurse, who really sounded worried when I was describing the bite. At this time, I was positive that I had some sort of highly poisionous spider bite on my hand ... needless to say I am a first time mom. At the end of the call, the nurse tells me I have to take her in, that this is very serious, and that I should have her seen in the next four hours.

I called my mom and dad to figure out what to do. My dad works in the local ER, as a sort of ER tech ... and is a retired firefighter. He has some medical knowledge obviously, so I took my daughter over for my parents to have a look at it. When they saw the bite, they were both very nervous, especially because it was hot to the touch.

My dad and the ENTIRE family were now on the way to the hospital. When we do things in our family, we do them big. HAHA. She was a sight, completely screaming and flipping out in the triage area. They took her back right away, I would say everything took place in less than 20 minutes.

My three year old was diagnosed with cellulites, a serious bacterial infection of the skin. They don't know how she got it ... just the right hole in the skin with the right bacteria at the wrong time. They aren't even sure it was a bug bite that started it ... it could have been a small scratch on her side ... or even a pimple that popped.

Needless to say, it's been a trying week. I am trying to keep my cool about the whole situation, but I am not used to things like this. I'm a nutcase when it comes to things with my baby girl, like most moms I suppose. I am however, enjoying our cuddle time this week, since she's been ordered to take it easy ... which is a great thing to try to explain to a three year old.
