Thumbs down He's awake half the night

Our dear sweet Michael still isn't sleeping. He is awake half the night, either kicking the sides of his bed, laughing out loud or making all kinds of noises anyway he can. He doesn't get out of bed, thank goodness.

I moved ds#1 into the small bedroom because when Michael was in there, he kicked the walls and kept dd awake all night. Now he is still keeping her awake and waking me up as well.

Last night he was still going strong at 1 a.m. in the morning.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to sleep and keeping him alseep. Our family doctor will not prescribe medication because most medications for this type of problem cause huge damage to the liver. I've tried Sleep-eze but after the first night, its a joke.

    HELP!!

All I can think of is make bath time just before bed and maybe a cup of warm milk. If he doesn't like it (like me) just put a little chocolate syrup or powdered hot cocoa mix in it to flavor it. Not too much as chocolate has caffine in it.

Hopefully once the weather gets nicer, he can go out and play more to tire him out during the day.

Have you tried valarin root? It's a homeopathic sleep aid. Other than that all I can think of are the same things that have already been suggested. Praying for you CJ and for Michael to settle down and get the sleep that he (and you all) need.

    CJ,
I don't know which type of things stimulate your son, but when Ryan was younger and even now at times, I swore by a sound machine. It makes a continous noise that is relaxing. You had several to pick from. She did the best on the gentle rain noise. My other suggestion is a homeopathic medicine called Pulsatilla. Again I don't know how this would work with your son but it did and still does help dd get to sleep when she just can't or has been to keyed up all day. Sending you a hug!

I want to second the noise machine. The white noise is a great sleep aid. Maybe it will help lull Michael to sleep.

My little guy, who has autism, was really getting bad about sleeping, and his DR suggested we try Melatonin which can be bought over the counter. I just crush it and put it in some juice and give it to him to drink. I usually wait until about 10 pm to give it to him, and he will sleep until about 6:30 am. I have found that with him it is best to make sure that it is totally dark, I think he fights it too much if he thinks that there is stuff going on that he is not part of. I hope you find something that works, I know how frustrating it can be!!

I have heard about Melatonin, but it is not sold in Canada and cannot be brought across the border.

I was going to suggest Valerian or melatonin too, but they beat me too it!

I am sorry to hear Micheal isn't sleeping well CJ. What about Benadryl or any other medication with antihistamine? It makes you very drowsy and sleepy. I know that when DH was having problems sleeping they prescribed him straight antihistamine tablets.
