Does anyone work 60 hours a week?
Currently I work 40 hours a week. My fiance also works 40 hours a week. We are able to pay our mortgage and all our bills but do not have much extra money for any fun or even for home improvements. I have an opportunity to start another part time job. I can pick how many hours I would like to work a week at this new job. I was thinking I could work 20 hours in addition to my full time job. I would add 2 hours to each week day and ten hours on Saturday.
Does anyone else work 60 hours? I'm nervous that it may be too much and I'm setting myself up to fail.

DH works 240 hours a month. Some weeks he works 72 hours, but he also works 24 hour shifts. So he actually only works 10 days a month.

Right now I run a dayhome for 50 hours/Week and I Work at A&W between 18-26 hrs/Week. I also do cake decorating but since I just started only average a couple hours/Week. It's not quite the same since the majority of the work is at home. Before I met Dh I Was working 16hrs/Day on MonDays, WeDnesDays, and FriDays and then 10-12hrs/Day on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Just remember that it might take a few weeks to get used to the neW hours, so you mightwant to have some meals maDe up aheaD of time.

I work about 60 hours. I do in home daycare from 6am-5pm. Sometimes the kids leave a bit early and that is a plus.
I sometimes think I want to work 8 hours on Saturday but that would give up all my free time, so I havent as of yet. I would though if I needed to.
Good luck!

Yep. 40 hrs for the full time job, 1-2 hours 3 nights a week plus 6-8 hours a day at the apartments renovating.
We're taking today off though - going down to DC to see friends. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I work 60 hours a week at the same job. I work 5 days a week/12 hours a day. Some days my body hates me, but I'm doing it to help pay off debt quicker, and even when my body hates me, my bank account makes me feel better about it.

I work as a sales rep/merchandiser and some weeks it is long. I also do a part time job in a gift shop for added cash. If I am on the road(as in out of my area) working sometimes its 14 hour days plus the driving time. You do get used to it but not something I want to do forever.

I have before, but it is not something I prefer. When I had my own restaurant, I worked 90 hours a week. When I managed a retail store for someone else, it was 55-60 hours a week. If I was single without kids it wouldn't be a big deal, but when you still have laundry, shopping, cooking and cleaning to do for a family, it is a big deal.

I am not doing it now. But I use to work 8 hours a day Monday thru Friday on the fulltime job and #4 hours a day Monday thru friday on the parttime job. I would also work #12 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday at the parttime job. I got sooooo tired. I did it for a couple of years and that was enough I decided I would rather be super frugal than to ever work that many hours again.

I frequently work 60 + hours /week. I generally work 12 hour shifts, so what I work most is 4 - 12 hour shifts and one 16 hour shift, giving me 64 hours/week, but still only working 5 days.

I work 55 - 60 hours a week, I am a public servant on salary so I don't earn any extra but can take any extra time off at full pay as time off in leiu.
I also study part time so these hours are spread out over 4.5 days as I have tuesday afternoon's off to go to uni.
My sister and I also have a small business on the side that takes up about 5 hours a week.
Sometimes I feel tired but luckily I can take my days off that I have accumulated when it gets too much.
I would defintely do it - you could do it for a while and if it gets too much then stop, the money you earn even for just a few months could help you out no end and even if you do get tired and have to stop then you would have put more towards debt while you were burning the candle then you would have anyway.Last edited by missmanny; 07-28-2008 at 01:21 AM.

DH works 60-80 hours a week. Usually closer to the 80. Gets up, goes to work, comes home, eats, sleep, again..
I wouldn't work yourself to the bone
But I know a lot of people who work 60+ hours a week just because they can't sit still or do need the extra money

I often do, but I'm in a salaried position, so I don't get any extra pay. The last couple of weeks, I am working a "graveyard" shift, which is murder. I am ALWAYS tired.
I tried a weekend job once, just a few hours on Saturday, and I found I really missed having my "down" time. The extra money wasn't worth how much I felt I was losing in time to garden, read, or just enjoy being in my home and away from an office.DH aka Mad Hen

I do home daycare, last year it was 60 hours a week, this year it's looking like shorter days(yay!), but more money..lol.
It's exhausting because I have all the house chores to do with what help I get from my kids, dh has been working 10-12 hour days out of the house on his feet, so he's exhausted too. But he does all the yard work, so it evens out. He does about 75% of the kids sports stuff so I get a little down time as we're very busy on the weekends and I don't do much for extra curricular where he plays hockey. It's all good
Balances in the end.
I'd love to have less hours, but right now we have goals set that we want to meet, so that's that.

Over the past year I've been working 56-80 hours a week. I take OT at my full time and work 16 hours at my part time job.
