McCafe
Well, I've started a new job this week.
I'm going to work at McD's and will be in management. It's a lovely choice for me for a variety of reasons and I'm really having fun with the job.
My first duty is to coordinate the training and roll-out for the new internal coffee house business called McCafe. On my first day, I went to McCafe training and it's really pretty neat. This is going to be a very interesting addition to the McDonald's experience.
Once the roll-out is complete, I'll be working as an Ass't Manager for a while and then store manager. I'm quickly working to learn all stations so that I know from the ground up how the store operates.
The irony is... I worked at this McD's over 20 years ago as one of my first jobs. Had I not chosen to go to college, they were intent on placing me on the management track then. This job is a lot more fun and a lot less stressful than dealing with corporate crap!
Soooo, do you have a McCafe at your McD's yet? If so, have you tried it... what do you think?

I can...
McDonald's will be rolling out the new McCafe's everywhere throughout the fall. These are not a short promotion, but a total addition to the store, requiring some remodeling. The stores will be selling espresso based drinks; lattes, cappucinos, mochas, iced mocha lattes, etc. This is using real espresso beans ground fresh and made to order... very similar to Starbucks but with price points at about half the cost. Due to the training involved, each store is instructed to do a "soft opening" while training the crew. During these 2 - 3 weeks there will be a lot of free samples of the new product as the crew learns to make the new menu items. McD's will also offer frequent purchase drink discount cards... buy 5 specialty coffees and get one free.

I saw it at another McD's. Our McD's is under renovation and will reopen in November. Our area is a test market for lots of chains. I am guessing by November they will have decided where they are going with McCafe. Good luck! Sounds like you are really having a lot of fun!

I think they've already decided and tested the market. We're in active rollout... remodeling here starts on 8/17. I'm betting the McD's near you will reopen with their McCafe in place. They probably decided to do some lobby remodeling at the same time. Stores that haven't been remodeled in a while have chosen to go that route. The store I'm at was remodeled about 2 years ago so we're just adding the McCafe section and that will take about 3- 4 days.
It is fun!Last edited by suki; 08-08-2008 at 08:58 PM.

We had a salad in the closest McD's to us the other day and nothing is happening there yet. They just remodeled it about a year ago so I'm guessing they'll just add the coffee bar section there. Should be neat. I rarely buy a coffee drink anywhere and am really very rarely in McD's but I might splurge the next time we're going somewhere and we drive through for a sausage biscuit. (oh I love those things with jelly.....about 1000 calories....sigh)

Congratulations on the new job!!
Yes, I have tried it. DS#3 and I both had an iced mocha one day. It was good, but not as good as good as Starbucks. I plan on trying just a mocha next time I stop in McD's instead of the iced mocha. I like the way that McD's change the interior appearance when they put in the McD's in our locations. It made it look more up to date. You can tell they are trying to appeal to all coffee drinkers.~*Michelle*~

I've only seen the iced mochas, and they were rather weak tasting. But it was a hot day, and it was cold and refreshing. I'll be interested to see how all this develops.

I tried the mocha coffee with whipped cream. It was so-so. It looked nothing like the picture because by the time they gave it to me to go, the whipped cream had all melted. It tasted just like what I make when I mix hot cocoa with coffee and add half-n-half to it. Therefore, since it was not fabulous as I expected for the hefty cost, I put it on my way-too-expensive list and have not bought it again. I didn't bother to try the new cinnabuns, either, since they looked suspiciously like monkey bread to me.

I thing we have a Mc Cafe. There is a list of the new drinks. The only remodeling though is a chalkboard menu hanging over the counter that lists the drinks and says Mc Cafe.
I haven't tried the new drinks. But I have had the vanilla iced coffee it is good. I prefer what I make at home.
The Cinnabuns are yummy. I like them better than their old cinnamon rolls. My daughter liked them too and found them easier to eat.
Are they part of the new Mc Cafe line?
Another Mc Donald's, the one near Starbucks is closing for remodeling for about 3 days. It should be really cool as it already had a fireplace with comfy chairs near the fire.
I wonder how the Mc Cafe will do in my town as we have a couple of local and really cool coffee houses/lounges.
Congratulations on the new job.
