Angry How My Boss is Teaching Me Patience and Tolerance!

So a while ago, I had an issue with my supervisor expecting me to cover work expenses out of my own money and wait to be reimbursed. That got resolved when I went over her head.

Now I work with a petty chas float and she tops it up when it gets low. She never submits her claims on time, and therefore is always stuck for money...sorry, but not my problem!

NOW, she's trying to say I haven't cleared my petty cash float, even though she has all the receipts. I have sent her an email detailing everything that has happened in the past two months, since I kepe very accurate records. Have yet to get a response.

How is it okay that me, a worker, has better records, than her, a manager? Argh, I'm so annoyed!!!

In my experience, workers frequently do keep better records than their managers, but it's also been my experience that it's best not to point that fact out too much....no one likes it when others point out that they're wrong. Going over a managers' head often results in their finding a way to get even. I think a good approach is to work things out at the lowest level possible, and only go over a manager's head if you can't resolve things any other way....and even then, consider the political cost of doing so. People have long memories, and the past can come back to bite you when you least expect it. (Of course, each office environment is different so your mileage may vary! But in most work settings it's better to be viewed as collaborative than confrontational, kwim?)

Unfortunately, it happens a lot. I've had managers who were IT directors but knew nothing at ALL about IT.

It never fails to amaze at the lack of ability that some have. I gotta figure there is some reason for them to be there...I just try to remember the Serenity Prayer when I face them in these situations.

Last time, I tried working with her for two months before I went over her head...I only did it because I was owed almost $400 and had been out of pocket for three weeks!

This time the disprecency is over $120, so hopefully she will look at the records, and realize she's made an error.

I completely agree with your advice, which is where the "patience and tolerance" comes in!

You know what they say...."those who can, do, and those who can't are promoted!"
