    Default maybe i am crazy

    hello all. I am an RN (nurse) with an MBA as well. I have been lucky enough to obtain a position in healthcare administration (management). The truth is, after doing this type of work for a little over 2 years.. I have come to realize I hate it. The money is great but the hours and the stress are not so great. I think I want to go back to direct patient care, but I know I will take a decent hit in the wallet ( about 1600 a month). On the flip side, I can most likely work 12 hours shifts three days a week- giving me some of my life back: more time to work on my own interests, cancel my bi-weekly housecleaning service, and give me time to actually cook meals instead of buying expensive takeouts. Would I be crazy??

    Can you afford the loss of income?
    If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

    Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

    Not any crazier than me! I recently quit my full time job because of stress and burnout and I'm now going to community college full time at 46 years old.

    Life's too short to be unhappy in your career.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”
    — From a translation of an inscription on
    an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

    God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
    courage to change the things I can,
    and the wisdom to know the difference

    Money isn't everything & life is too short to miserable and a slave to the all mighty dollar. Paring back your expenses is a small price to pay for all the years, happier years, you are giving yourself with living everyday on your terms. Go you!

    yes I could afford the loss of income. It seems the more we make the more we spend. I am working very hard at getting out of debt,and paid off about 12,000 in debt in less than 8 months. I guess I finally realized that money is not everything, instead of chasing a dollar- do what makes you happy. As long as the basic needs are met of course..

    Is it the career or the job? Would a different organization maybe be better for the same position?

    great idea to see if I can make it without it. Play a little game with myself to shave down expenditures and still pay off debt with 1600 less. I already know I can- we pay most of the living expenses out of my husband's income. I have been using mine for the past 10 months to pay down debt, fund a vacation and a used motorcycle. I don't think it is just the company although that is a big piece of it.
    I have pretty much done the same type of work for a little over 2 years- this place for 9 months, another company (different state for 18 months). The type of position consumes way too much of me- I am exhausted by the end of the day, both mentally and physically. 50 hour weeks get to you after awhile.

    I use to be a public school teacher $50000 a year and hated it.
    Life is too short to do what you hate . Private school pays less but the stress level is half.
    Only do it if you can afford it . Live life on the lowered income and see how comfortable you are with it before you make any rash decisions. Are there children involved?

    Could you stand to do it long enough to get debt free except the house before going back to the work you love?

    Back on the floor, huh? Are you sure? There is just as much stress on the floor. At least with your office job, your legs won't ache, you might get to eat, and you might be able to save your back. Give it some thought before giving your notice............

    NO its not crazy. i wish i could work 3 12 hours shifts a week ! If you can live fairly decent on it and cut expenses in the process, i don't see why you should'nt do it. I used to have 2 jobs, when i gave up my second one, it was the best thing i ever did AND i make more at the one i have now.
