Default I've got to get a job

So, in my other post I said that I am loosing my job after 15 years.

My first job was at a candy store that my mom had worked at. I would come help her in the evenings and they just hired me.

My second job was at where my Mom worked full time. I wanted a new job and she got me the interview.

That last interview was 15 years ago now and I have no idea what to do.

I have been applying on Craigslist but no responses so far. Where else do I go?

    Help, I need suggestions!!

I have very few friends in this area and they are all either self-employeed or do something that I couldn't do well.

    Thanks,

Have you made a resume? 15 years on a job looks very good. Look through your local paper and apply on-line everywhere you can.

I made one last year when I moved and then updated it.

Last year I didn't get the first bite and I know I send my resume out to at least 100 companies.

I just don't know what I am going to do!!!

Financially I will be ok, but this complete feeling of worthlessness that I have is just horrible!

Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com are good sites. I have more luck with call backs and interviews with Careerbuilder when I use them though. Another thing is go directly to companies websites. Another suggestion is email OR call companies directly and ask if they are hiring and how you can go about applying.

I've emailed a few companies in the past and have had them tell me exactly when they would be hiring next so I don't disregard them completely because they aren't hiring right now.

Ah, please don't feel worthless. The economy sucks right now. I know you are not alone in your feelings. Hang in there and keep trying. It might take awhile, but I'm sure something will come through for you.

Capitalize on your retail experience. And the 15 years at one company. Don't beat yourself up - I have 20+ years experience in one field and had to change areas of experience to gain employment in this environment.

Before you totally beat yourself to the curb - consider volunteer work. It's something that you can add to you resume while getting your anxious butt out of the house. No offense meant - I've been in your shoes.

i will be honest i dont trust handing out a resume on craigslist .
unless you can verify they are a legit person working for a legit company .

I agree, no resume to anything on Craigslist. Had a news show here about 2 weeks ago on scams with this very thing. It's big business.
You said you would be ok financially...for how long? As said, volunteer for awhile. What did you do before? I must have missed a post somewhere.
Can you get unemployment for awhile? Can't hurt even if you don't need it. Might come in handy later.
    Hugs coming your way

Would you be interested in working in home health care? I was a SAHM for 10 years and went back to work as a part-time private duty CNA. I won't work a nursing home anymore....I'll save that for the younger girls with stronger backs. I LOVE my job and my seniors. The pay isn't wonderful ($12.00 an hour)....but it's a job and I don't work nights, weekends or holidays and am always home by the time my dd9 comes home from school.
