Red face A little nervous..hubs changing jobs..

well, my husband is giving his 2 week notice tomorrow..he works for a construction company (his job is manhole repair) and as you can imagine, it is a dirty, nasty job...can you say RAW SEWAGE?? the bad thing with this job is insurance is HORRIBLE ($200/wk) and supposedly a $1500 per person deductible, but they just let us know that we had to pay $5000 deductible before they will even pay 80/20??????? anyway, he also has to pay for hotel rooms and food and they travel alot. Alot of stress and he has gotten to where he hates this job. He is 46 and does not want to be doing this the rest of his life. He also drives a semi on the side. His best friend, who hubs helps alot , is a big farmer, which is what dh has always wanted to be. He grew up on a farm but his dad didn't like me so he wouldn't let him farm for him...anyhow...best friend has offered dh a full time job, insurance completely paid for , vacation, etc...dh is pretty excited and soo looking forward to this..will be salary now , plus overtime added at the end of the year, comp pay, vacation, etc...we have never had a salary job before and i am nervous...on one hand , great cause I will know what it will be each week. but knowing we wont' have to pay hotel and food bills makes me glad too...thinking things will be tight for a while, but hopefully will adjust...just needed to air, and if anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated!!!! Thanks!

Salary rocks - at least you're going to be able to budget knowing that its a steady amount each pay period. You'll fall into your swing soon enough Congrats on DH finding a better job - especially one that he WANTS to do.

Yeah, happier marital relations due to happier work is worth a little penny pinching. Hope all goes well!

It sounds EXCELLENT! My hubby is salary too. Even tho it means no overtime for him, I know exactly what I have to do each payday. Little things mean ALOT! And I'm so glad he's out of the sewers. That's back breaking, and nasty work like you mentioned, and at 46 who can blame him for wanting out? So I guess it couldn't have happened at a better time too!

But don't worry. If anything, it sounds so much better, alot more managable, and best of all for you, it means your hubby will be home now! It's true there's some change there, but you'll be used to it in no time, and I'm guessing ALOT happier! Congrats to your DH! He's gonna feel so much better now.

I have a cousin-in-law who is an civil engineer. For some reason, she had to do some work in and around manholes. Sewer planning??? Anyway, a manhole cover fell on her hand and arm. That was more than a year ago. She is still having physical therapy and even some surgeries related to it.

Farming has its own safety issues but I'd take those over raw sewage and the manhole cover issues.

Good luck with it all. Salary is very nice, as is a good insurance policy.
