Quitting job (rant)
Okay, it isn't any secret that we are moving to Florida. Hoping for the end of May! Told them at work about moving. Today I go to work, and they are demanding a quit date by the end of the day. I have told them that I would be giving two or three weeks notice when I know the date for sure, but they want one now. What to do?

I'd give them a date, sounds like they want to move on too.
Hope your move is a smooth one.~*Darlene*~

Sorry to hear that Eleni.
I would make the decision and them give them your answer. If that's what they want and you can't talk your way out of it.

When we decided to move to Nevada, I went in and told my boss' that I was giving them 3 weeks notice. They were so mad that I was leaving that they booted me out of there within the hour!!!.
Come to find out when I left I uncovered a lot of fraud (including them not paying in employee taxes on me) and that's why they were so mad.
I learned never to tell an employer that I was leaving unless I was ready to leave that day. In this, "no cause" termination world, it's just better to leave when you are ready without a notice of more than a week. It also isn't held against you anymore like it was a few years ago.
Hope things work out for you."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

Sorry your bosses are being so ugly. Keep happy thoughts of your move in the front of your mind. Hopefully the move will bring lots of great things to you.

Yep, go ahead and give them a date and stick to it. And if you have a little extra time between your quit date and the actual move, you will no doubt be able to use it for packing, finalizing banking and utility details, etc. Just don't let them talk you into "working a little longer" to train anyone because they didn't get a replacement hired in time!
