Default Finally Ready to Throw in the towel

I finally decided this week that I really can't stand my job and I'm going to start looking. I had previously said that I would wait until a year had passed, but I don't think my sanity will hold out that long. I spent last night on Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, and Hotjobs.com. I updated my resume and applied for 3 jobs. I honestly didn't think that any of them would actually respond (I've done enough job searches over the last 5 years that I know most online jobs I apply for NEVER call) but was pleasantly surprised to come home today and there was a message on my answering machine. I'm going to call them back tomorrow (on my lunch hour on my cell phone, of course!). My real goal is that last time I looked for a job I had Fidelity call me 3 different times and I turned them down all 3 times - I'm hoping they'll call me again and I'll say yes this time.

My only commitment to my current job now is I need to stay for the whole month of May - I need the health insurance to cover my doctors appt, DH's doctors appt, and my dentist appt (all in May).

I had a big talk with DH about this last night - since I'm the only one working full time (DH just started a part-time job two weeks ago) I cover almost all the bills and I carry the health insurance coverage. Ideally, I shouldn't switch jobs until DH has a full time job with benefits, but I just dread the thought of going into work and dealing with my boss every day. DH said that he fully supports my in my new job search.

So wish me luck everyone! The job that called me back was the one I thought sounded most interesting too. Maybe that's a sign.

Sara -- TONS of support and good thoughts are headed your way from me! I so sympathize. I stay in my job too mostly because of the insurance -- but I've got a boss I like and most of the folks I work with are super. I've been here 21 years. But (another story, another can of worms) due to a boss's death, restructuring, etc. my job changed significantly and I'm totally bored most of the time. I daydream about changing jobs, and then chicken out. So I'm pleased you are plunging in and doing something about it!

Best of luck to you! And keep us posted please!

Good luck!! I wish you the best. I remember I had a job I hated hated hated and I stayed there for 9 months. When I finally left my whole personality changed. I was happier, less stressed, ect. Made me wonder why I stayed for 9 months. You are at work so much you have to like your job to have a good quality of life. - that's my motto.

I was at a job I hated for 3 1/2 years. My doctor told me to find something less stressful. Later my husband told me what a nicer person I was since I wasn't working there anymore. The only reason I had stayed so long was because they paid all my insurance and had paid sick days, vacation and holidays.

Good luck Sara! There's nothing worse than having to go every day to a job you hate.
