Are you ever content with your job?
I have been looking for a new job since the moment I got the one I have. I think I would like to have a job I didn't want to leave.
Have you gotten there yet?

Most jobs for me have just been something to make money at, I've only had one job I really loved, and I had to quit that because of harrassment (before harrassment became a crime).

My job is also just a place to make money. I don't like it, and sometimes I hate it, but I'm lucky really to have it. I recently got a big old raise which makes it more bearable.
Good Luck in finding something less terrible!

I used to find great fulfillment in my work, but lately my co-workers are making it difficult to enjoy. As such, I'm considering alternatives. DH and I are talking about having a family soon, so I'll stay with this one for a while yet, so I can go on maturnity leave. We'll see.
Bright Blessings!

Some days I like my job, other days I can't stand it. Lately there have been more love-it days than not, but we are in for a big storm soon- both of my supervisors are leaving their postitions at the end of the month. (I have SO been here before- this happened exactly 4 years ago, too.)
People keep trying to get me to take the one position, but I am just not interested in:1)working full time and 2)workig days. The people I worked with four years ago also tried to get me to take it, but I just don't want work to be what my life is about, KWIM?
As far as satisfaction, well, I don't think I will ever be satisified with my work unless I go back to school and get a degree in forensic anthropology. I just want something that will pay the healthcare insurance bill and not make me crazy while I do my real work of raising DD. (I feel very lucky to be able to spend most of my time with her, so I guess any job I have that makes that possible is a good job, right?)

Kimberly, you put into words exactly how I feel about working.
I work full time, and am fairly well paid, but some management changes about 6 years ago made huge changes in the scope of my job so that now I just hold my chair down most days. BUT I get inexpensive health insurance on my family and my boss is totally understanding about time I need to have off for family/kids. I sometimes think about trying to find another job, but doubt I would find anyplace where going in as a newbie I would be able to take time off when I have a sick kid or whatever. So I stay --- holding down my chair.~~Jean~~

That sounds EXACTLY like how I feel. People tell me "if you hate your job so much, why not find another one?" And I have to keep telling them "It's not the job so much, it's just that I hate working!". They don't really get that, but it's true. I just don't want to work anywhere full time. Part time would be a lot better, and I wouldn't mind it so much. This way I just feel like I'm wasting so much of my day.Originally posted by jlxian

I'm with MandiDawn -although I will admit, even when we have kids, DH and I have discussed working split shifts to avoid daycare. I really can't imagine NOT working at this point yet (again, I don't have kids yet - maybe this will change).
I've had two GREAT jobs in my life, both of which I was laid off from due to plant closings. The second job I was laid off from, but my position has been "re-created" - I interviewed over there 2 weeks ago, and the manager told me that I was chosen, so I'm just waiting for corporate to come through with an offer (and it's taking forever!)
So yes, I do believe that its possible to have a great job. Of course, it also depends on what you want to do with your life. Not everyone "should" be a career women, or a SAHM, or a working mother - everyone SHOULD just do what they want to do (and are able to).Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I have been with my agency for 11 years, in my current position for 5. One of my best friends is my direct supervisor, I have no interest in moving up down or out, unless I decide to stay home with the kids. Do I love my job, no, is my job easy, no (that's why it's called work) but it does satisfy my needs for an income, an identity of my own, and great benefits. It keeps me content in the fact that it gives me those things and I feel because of my career choice I am giving back to society which I feel is important.

I love my job, and I love working full-time, even though I didn't think I would.
My problem is an office bully that harasses me on a daily basis, today, for example, by phone because I was at the satellite office today.

I actually really did used to love my job --- I've been in the same job for 21 years. And the folks I work with for the most part are like a second family. But the changes that were made several years ago took away the parts of my job that I enjoyed the most.Originally posted by annieacid

All that said, I'm employed, and I think its a secure job even if I'm bored. It could be much much worse.~~Jean~~

Currently I love my job, as far as jobs go. I have been here for over ten years. If I need to take time off, even if it's unpaid (because I'm out of vacation time), I'm able to without hesitation. I have unlimited sick days and do not take advantage of that at all. If I'm sick I call in only if I'm in bed and can't make it. If I have to go to a funeral I get personal time paid. Everyone I work with is great. We are a company of only 21 at the moment. I am also able to telecommute, from home, if we find a house over an hour away. I never work with the public, I can wear anything I want, but I like to look nice for work. I live 2.5 miles from my office so it's easy to get to and I can walk to save money on fuel and wear and tear on the car, plus get great exercise.
The things that I don't like about my job are that I have to sit here all day. I'm on salary, so I can't make up for unpaid vacation time if I use up my vacation before the year is up. I get bored of my job just like anyone else, so I have to find ways of keeping it interesting. I hate working 40 hours a week, but can't afford to go part time right now.

I love my job, I am a substitute meals on wheels driver and it is the funnest job I ever had I have worked a lot this summer filling in for people's vacation. It is only a part-time job from 9 to about 12:30 so I am still home with the kids most of the time.

I don't especially hate or love my job, but it certainly is very interesting. I work with some really intelligent individuals, and working with smart people makes my day. Of course there are the people that I call a complete drain on society that I sometimes have to interact with...but it comes with the parcel that is a job, so I try to not lose my temper too much.
However this job is a means to a job I am working toward...this current job pays well and gives me benefits, so I have nothing to complain about really.
Personally, I enjoy working. I like using my brain to solve problems and getting praise (I do have an ego
)...so as far as children go we currently have thought up two options: 1. I work FT and DH is SAHD, and 2. we both work part time (we plan on home schooling). Time will telll what happens in reality.
