Cool I'd like to share about my gratifying day...

As you can see from my siggy, I'm an RN in a NICU. I had such a good day yesterday. I had only two babies, which means I have time to spend with the babies and their families. One of my babies was born 3 months early and is now a month old. When they're born that early, they are so fragile that they can't even be handled. Now that he's a month old, though things are different. So I helped his mom give him a bath (full immersion - babies love it!) and I had her do it; I just stood by and coached. Then later I assisted her to nurse him for the first time. He's not actually getting nutrition, but he's learning how to feed and mom and baby are bonding. What makes this even more awesome is that she has had a reduction and didn't know if she'd even make any milk.

Later that mom told me that the bath was the most she's ever handled him in the whole month since he's been born.

    I felt so good.

How satisfying for you to be a part of that. New mums need all the help they can get. I'm glad you were there for her.

That is amazing. I imagine your job can bring you ultimate joy or be very heartbreaking. It takes special people to do what you do!

What a great day you had and the fact that you were able to help so much. Your job must be so rewarding and I am sure sad at times....
