Even MORE gainfully employed than before!
Well, you ladies were right -- another opportunity was right around the corner. Most of you know I was fired this weekend from my job in the automotive industry. Being a small industry, word got out, and today a company called me in for an interview. I had pretty much decided not to go back to work in that field, but as a courtesy, I went to hear what they had to say. They had a really interesting offer, at much higher pay than I was receiving before.
I have never been in a stronger position for negotiating in my entire life., because if they had said no to my requests I would have had no problem walking away. I managed to get the hours cut back to where I can pick up the girls from school ever day but one in the week. I got the option to work from home when the kids are sick. I got the salary raised slightly (although it was higher than my expectations from day one.) I got a management position with the autonomy I require. They said yes to absolutely everything. Then I told them I was only interested in a three month contract. They were stunned that I did not want a year, but I told them that this was a testing phase for both of us to see if we were happy with one another. We shook hands on it today. I still have to go to the human resources interview but he told me this was merely a formality. There is also the potential for a MUCH bigger advancement at the end of my three months if things go well.
Y'all rock!
Thanks for helping me keep my chin up. If not for the frugal changes I have made since joining this website, I would not be in a position to negotiate and get the job designed to my liking. Thanks for being there for me.
