Clipped Wings
I've posted before about the extensive travel my job requires--and I've posted about the two surgeries I've endured this year. Well, the two worlds collided today. I am officially unable to travel due to the medical stuff...and I have to transfer out of my division since I can no longer meet the travel requirement.
I guess I'm just looking for some comfort. That kind of traveling is not just a job, it's a lifestyle. At the risk of sounding dramatic, I feel like part of my identity has been taken from me. I'm also nervous about finding another role in the my company, even though it's huge and I will have help from my current manager.
I have such mixed feelings. I'm happy that this means more time at home with DH, more time to finish my never-ending graduate degree, etc., but I also look wistfully at the planes in the sky. I won't be on them anymore.

I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I'm still in the middle of coming to grips myself with the loss of my work identity. I still find it very hard and daydream about working at my old job. I wish I could offer you some good advice on how to get over the loss, but I can't. Right now I'm just taking some time out to mourn the loss of my job before I decide what I want to do.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I can understand that completely, after I got out of the Navy, then spent 6 years in the radio broadcasting and advertising field I was laid off... I felt like I had no identity... I then went back to school and got my degree, I'm working, but only to pay for graduate school... then on to where I'm feeling called...
