    Angry Here's one for you...

So, I am going to be opening a daycare in my house. Told them at work, but did not give any notice or date, they knew that. Guess what, they hired someone to take my place, and they will be cutting me to part time, and they want me gone by May 25th. Is that just wrong, or what? I could see if I told them that was the date I was leaving, but I didn't! Now I'm scrambling to find a couple of children to babysit! I'm so upset.

I feel they did it because they don't like people with young children, because of some times having to miss or leave early. But, I don't do it that often!

    Thanks for letting me vent!

They shouldnt have done that, it's poor business practice. I just hope you can make up for the lost time with getting some kids to babysit.

I'm so sorry they treated you like that! Well, the bright side is that you won't have to be treated like that any more. I'm praying that you will have little one's to watch soon!

I can't believe you were treated like that. I bet you'll be glad to get out of there. Will be praying that you get some children for your daycare very soon.

You would think they would be happy. Most of the reason people with young children have to leave work early or call in sick is because of lack of daycare...and you are trying to provide that.

I hope you get some more clients quickly!

I'm sorry that happened, but it is par for the course around here in business. A guy in dh's department gave his 2 weeks notice last week. The boss said, "Are you sure there's nothing we can do to change your mind?" He said, "I'm sure." So, the boss gave him a cardboard box and had security escort him out right then and there. And that's how they do it every time. I don't know what your line of work was, but in dh's company it's for a variety of reasons. 1) You're leaving, you may not be putting in as much effort as you would were you staying, so let's replace you with someone who has a vested interest in continuing to work hard. 2) They don't want you taking any clients/information/stuff with you when you go.

I had almost the same thing happen to me one time! I was trying to be considerate, giving them two weeks to find a replacement, and was told to leave on the spot. That boss was a real jerk. Of course, that was the reason I was leaving anyway, because he was not a good boss.

Sorry about the rude boss, you'll have plenty of kids in no time. Mothers are always looking for good daycare.

DH's company does this also. They do it for the same reasons mentioned and for security and safety reasons as well.

A lot of companies I've worked for ask you to leave immediately. Don't take it personally--their loss.

I'm praying that you have kids knocking down your door tomorrow.

Then why do companies ask for a 2 week notice? If they're going to ask employees to leave anyways, it just doesn't make any sense. There's no incentive for common courtesy anymore

I think they took it as an informal 2 wks notice type thing. They could've asked if this daycare thing was for sure or have you put it in writing...could this be illegal dismissal or is it just me thinking that? For all they know you were just sharing your 'dream' outloud and they misinterpreted it?

Rude on their behalf and honestly do you want to work for a company that treats you like that? Would you go back now after all this just happened?

I wish you sucess in your home daycare biz and that you get enough kids soon!

Thanks! They put me on part time, and this is my last week there. I'm not going in anymore after Thursday!

I've been wondering about your home daycare and how it's going. Any kiddos, yet? Sorry if I missed this info from another post.
