Setting up home daycare...
Don't know if this is where it belongs, but has anyone gone about watching children from home for pay?
I'm interested in taking in one baby either part-time or for a teacher so I can have summers off and attend to my own children then.
Is it acceptable to place an add in schools somewhere to advertise my services or do you think the establishment would frown upon that? Would it just be a word of mouth thing?
Also, I have no idea what to charge. Do I call daycare centers and see what they get per child or is that not an accurate guage? Should I be first aid certified before I embark on such a thing?
Any help would be appreciated.

I have flyers in schools, but it is mostly because I know people that put them there, teachers, etc... My dd's teacher has my business cards and gives them out, along with her old teachers.
As for setting rates, my dd went to daycare, so I set them for a little lower than that. I have 2 toddlers, one baby, and 3 before and after school kids that I watch. I have all of them all summer, along with my dd.

The school I work at allows you to leave your information posted in the teacher's workroom. I would check into you area schools and see if it is ok and if so, I would post them.
As a parent, I would prefer someone who is first aid/CPR certified to watch my child. That is just my opinion though. I know there are caregivers who aren't.
I think calling local daycares in your area and just checking on their prices would be a good idea. Then you would know where to set your prices.....preferrably a little lower than their rates.~*Michelle*~

Are you going to get licensed? If so then you have to be CPR cert. at least here in Cali anyway.

I would call other inhome daycare providers and ask what they charge. You can be honest about it, but I don't know how many honest answers you would get or just call and inquire as if you have a child. The price varies depending on where you live. I am licensed in NC--mountains and I charge $100 for 18 months and up and $125 for 6 weeks to 18 months.

Also, once you get one or two kids, word of mouth takes over and you have more people calling you. I also advertise on Craigslist, and in the newspaper once in a while.

A great site is www.123child.com and you go into home providers and there are a bunch of wonderful women there willing to help out.

Just my opinion:
I would NEVER use an in-home provider unless they were state licensed.
I personally love an in-home environment!
Good luck!!
